I am originally from Spain and I am always looking for a place that reminds me of home. In order to give a better opinion, I have tried Barcelona a few times and have waited to write a review.
The atmosphere here, from the music to the decor (except for the hanging garlic and jamones they have by the kitchen) doesn't remind me of Spain at all - although the decor is very nice and modern, and the place is always clean.
I do like that they use pots and dishes that you see in Spain, such as the cazuela pots for the gambas al ajillo, the olives, and other tapas, and the wooden dish for the pulpo.
The tapas are pretty good and somewhat authentic: I like that they have options for the charcuterie board other than the typical jamón and chorizo - seeing fuet, sobrasada, and salchichón was a nice surprise - and they tasted authentic too. If you want to try the best and authentic jamón, get the Mangalica jamón (bottom of the list, priced at $12) as it tastes more similar to jamón ibérico than the jamón serrano they have at the top of the list. You can even see the difference just by looking at the difference in color, fat, and of course, flavor. The shishito peppers are pretty similar to the "Padrón peppers" we have in Spain, since some are spicy and others aren't. They're nicely salted. I have mixed feelings about the pulpo as it is usually overcooked and rubbery. Pulpo is one of my favorite tapas and I grew up watching my family make it from scratch so I know it is hard to cook and easy to mess up. But good pulpo should never be rubbery. Gambas al ajillo are okay as they lack some garlic and paprika flavor in my opinion. The bacon wrapped dates are nice. The NY strip isn't really Spanish at all, but it's one of my favorite things on the menu as it is always cooked right and the chimichurri gives it a very good flavor. Jamón croquetas are very good. I love croquetas in general and I've tried them at multiple Spanish restaurants in the DC area, but these are one of the best. Although not technically a tapa, their bread is very good, and the olive oil they give you is also really good. I have never had their tortilla de patatas but it is something that I will go back for.
Their wine selection is pretty awesome, but their sangria is a little disappointing because the flavor is not very authentic and rich.
Their desserts are authentic overall. The chocolate cake is very good and kind of light, which is very nice. The burnt Basque cheesecake was great, authentic, and very flavorful. The flan is pretty good. They also have a nice selection of sherry wine and port to pair with your dessert.
Service has always been very good, so I will keep coming back! But I would appreciate a little more...
Read moreHey my name is LaBella, i am a very loyal and regular customer at Barcelona on 14th st almost 5 years, Last night 10/11/23 i decided to go the Reston location. We faced with a terrible experience there. First, when we there we had greeting with a host and put the name for the table waiting list, the host said it should be 30 - 45 min. We recieved the text to confirm at 7.20 we stll there like an hour and we check what's goin on. They still put us on hold. When so many table are done but the management are so slow about it. Then they gave us a small table when we have 4 ppl on my party, an they gave a big table for 2 people who came the same time as us, DIDN'T MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL. We asked to change and switch the table because we have 4 ppl! Took awhile for them to made it happen. Our server Emily she came and greeting us, first she was nice but it took her awhile to come and take an order, an she been disappeared for awhile and we need a second order. She's gone for like almost 20 - 30 minute, so we decided to order a drink with a bartender. Everything was nice, drink, food we kind of had a good time in our food. A moment later after we order a drink with the bartender the manager name Lisa ILic came to our table and said " I'm so sorry guys, your server are uncomfortable to serve you guys. So, if anything you want you can tell me" after i heard that, I asked her what happened why she is so uncomfortable, what did we do wrong. Because after i heard that I feel soooo uncomfortable. The manager can't provide us any answers and she gave us a check after all. I am extremely so uncomfortable and so disappointed on the manager action, the staff action. The manager walked away and talking on phone all the time after tge situation happened. We really need the answer why what happened? Why the server refused to serve us, why she so uncomfortable? Why can't manager come to tell us like that and can't provide us the answer. Such a horrible experience at...
Read moreThis restaurant has a great atmosphere and amazing service. The inside area has some seating but it's not very large and they do have an outdoor seating area which later in the day does get full sun. I ordered a few tapas and they came out very quickly within under 5 minutes and all at the same time which was not what I was wanting, if I knew it was this fast I would have waited longer in between ordering. The albondigas / meatballs and the sauce is very good, I used the bread to soak up the sauce and eat it that way. The jamón & manchego croquetas were absolutely delicious, you need to try them! The hanger steak came out cold because it was sliced so thinly which was a bummer. They offer wine flights here that are pre-made and there are four flights to select from an each have three wines. This restaurant does serve french fries even though they are nowhere on the menu oh, the french fries are Boardwalk Style. I received a half serving of the seafood paella and it was very oily, the bottom part of the paella was burnt and stuck to the pan, this was also the least amount of rice I've ever had served in a paella before and the one prawn that came with it was overcooked and bland. I enjoyed the red wine flight. I tried the red sangria and it was not to my liking, it was very floral and nothing like a regular sangria. The fruit Gintonic seemed to ve very popular and was better than the sangria in my option. I had the alebrijes mixed drink which tasted like a car tire mixed with cow manure, I was horrified. The chocolate cake was really good and you can get a scoop of ice cream on the side if you ask for it, even though again ice cream is not listed on the menu. This restaurant becomes very busy even on weekdays by six the entire restaurant was full and started a waitlist oh, and since most people are here for a happy our style, the waitlist tends to stay waiting for a very long time, I saw people waiting around for more than half an hour just...
