Back in the 90s, when I was young, we used to go down to Florence, where we found the Tacos el Gavilan taco truck. They were big, fresh, and when you added the beans, grilled onions, and jalapeños, they were heavenly. Those tacos eclipse the ones they are selling nowadays. Even when they installed a restaurant right in front of the taco truck, we would still go to the truck. So when I found this one location, I was really looking forward to trying them. But what a disappointment it was. The 3-bite tacos are good but could be better. By the time you sit to eat, the tortilla is cold because the kid serving them gets a whole pile of tortillas from the kitchen. The Lengua had a weird taste, maybe because it wasn't fresh. The carnitas were good, but they were so few that I can tell you that I didn't even get a good taste of them. The asada was so overcooked that it was hard. I was craving a sope so much, but this one was just sad. The tortilla didn't even seem fried. The sope didn't ressemble a sope it was just bad. The good thing about this place is that the aguas frescas are $3 dollars and you can drink as much as you want. The staff was unhappy and plain disconnected from the customers. I tried smiling at them and nothing. Everyone here seems to not wanna be here, which gives the place a depressing vibe. I understand this is not the best location, and they must meet all kinds of crazies, but at least show some customer care. I don't think I will be going back to this place. Or any of them, I have been to two other locations in LA, and they all seem to have this sad, customer disconnect vibe, not inviting at all. How sad. This place used to have such good quality food, but now they have truly stopped caring. The place was clean, which is a lot to say about a...
Read moreI visited Tacos Gavilán today during lunch, and I honestly wish I had gone somewhere else. The experience was frustrating from start to finish. I had heard decent things about this place, but what I got was a far cry from quality food or decent customer service.
First, I ordered the carne asada tacos and a torta cubana. The carne asada was incredibly overcooked—dry, chewy, and lacking any of the bold flavor you'd expect from a taquería that claims to specialize in authentic Mexican street food. It felt like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours.
Then came the torta cubana, which was even worse. The milanesa meat was tough and borderline inedible—completely flavorless, dry, and hard to bite through. There was no balance in taste or texture. It honestly tasted like something thrown together without any care. For a place that charges what they do, I expected something edible at the very least.
To top it all off, the cashier was rude and had an attitude from the moment I stepped up to the counter. No greeting, no patience, and she acted like I was bothering her by placing an order. I get that lunch rush can be hectic, but there's no excuse for treating customers with that level of disrespect.
I left feeling completely dissatisfied—not just with the food, but with the entire experience. There are too many great taco spots in the area to waste time or money here. This was my first time at Tacos Gavilán, and it will...
Read moreAt 2:00 p.m. I made a phone order to el Gavilan and placed an order over the phone. I was charged on my bank of america account showing as processing like many other stores. Over the phone I heard whomever charged asked another staff member that no ticket had printed and that staff member told her you can't give her the food if no ticket was printed. I got off the car went in and the staff register told me that it has happened to them and that even if it was showing me that there was a process on my account they couldn't give me the food because there was ticket printed. Not only was she going back and forth with me but another member started telling I should not get mad and that I had to wait until the day after till 5 p.m to come back and show proof the money was taken out my account. Nonetheless you have customers and making it seem like I robbed from you guys. Every store I purchase from has a processing status just as your transaction did. This was a very unpleasant visit and bad experience I had. No to mention we come...
