I really enjoy eating soul food from Ruby's. took my best Friend here recently for her first time and she loved it! My favorite thing there is the collard greens...DELICIOUS! The food is served cafeteria style in complete dinners. An entree and two sides plus a corn muffins makes a complete dinner. The entrees include; Baked turkey wings which come with cornbread dressing, fried and roasted chicken, smothered pork chops, catfish filets cooked to order, baked salmon, and braised beef short ribs. There are plenty of side to choose from; baked mac and cheese, cabbage, candied sweets, black eyed peas, rice and gravy, corn, mashed potatoes and collard greens. There are other entrees and sides offered upon availability. The prices for each dinner depends on your chosen entree. Prices start at $14.99 and go as high as $28.99 per. All meals are packed in to-go containers but you can sit and eat in the dining room if you want. Drinks and desert are available. My favorite meal to get here is the smothered pork chop with candied sweets and collards. I also pay extra for a side order of Mac and cheese and extra greens. We both chose the turkey wing dinner and it was so good! The turkey was cooked til perfectly tender and stayed juicy in the natural cooking liquid. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The portions are generous but not over the top. We had plenty of leftovers to take home. On the way out, the cook came out with fresh, golden-fried catfish filets. My Friend ordered a dinner to go. Now she has food for a couple days. I only gave Ruby's 4 stars because the short ribs looked terrible and fatty and not very meaty and they were charging $28.00 for the dinner. I would rather they not offer them until they get some better quality short ribs especially if you are going to charge nearly $30 a plate. I also wish the corn muffins didn't taste like it came from a mix. Otherwise, Ruby's is a good place to pick up tasty soul food for take-out or sit and eat in the dining area before or after a show. If you happen to be in the area, stop in at Ruby's and get your...
Read moreI went in on a Sunday to get short ribs. Once there i was very excited as they looked very tasty along side the smothered pork chops. I told the guy behind the counter I would like 2 dinners. A line of 6 people took 40 mins and it wasn't because people weren't ready. They had two guys working the front line and they were both highly distracted, moving slow, and the line kept running out of items and instead of completing orders that they could complete they basically would stand at the counter until the back brought up another dish! Fish was one of the items that had run out prior to my arrival. Instead of someone from the back coming up to help they just dropped the good in an inopportune spot and looked at everyone getting frustrated and went back to the back. It seems they have more people working the back as I never saw the same person come up with food. The guy asking what meat at one point told the other guy say I won't walk out right now. When it was finally my turn to retell him what I wanted he couldn't pick up the short ribs and now I had been inside almost 50 mins in this line. I was about to be late for work. So instead of ordering 2 entrees I only got one. I wanted banana pudding it was not there. It was just horrible. Because the unmotivated guy kept dropping the short rib I said just give me the pork chops. I ended up with one tender and one tough pork chop. This was NOT worth being almost late. As I left I saw Priscilla's (another soul food restaurant) across the street. They take phone orders and their food is normally very tasty and tender. I won't make this mistake again. It's...
Read moreAfter driving several miles from the S/W side of Chicago to patronize this Black owned, and operated business in Homewood, me and my date were very, very, disappointed with this particular establishment. There was basically (No Servers), even though we stated that we were dining in. We stood at the buffet table to select our entrees along with our 2 side dishes, which was given to us in styrofoam trays along with plastic utensils. I had to actually go speak with the manager or owner whoever the young lady was in regard us receiving some silverware. We were never asked or given glasses or cups of water at all. There were no napkins on the tables or in the dining area period, and to top it all off the food was Horrible, & that's an understatement. There was no seasoning on anything, I actually ordered two freshly cooked chicken wings that were decent and the candy yams were alright, but other than that I will give this place 1/2 star, this was basically the worst dine in experience that I've incurred in years. However,I do understand the fact that some people do not know good food though. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. And last, but not least, please do not get the smothered pork chops, or that bland dressing. Even though this restaurant is listed as Ruby's online, the new name...
