Finally made it to Little Orchids- in the same mall as the Quakertown Target-for lunch on a Tuesday. Not very busy. We were seated immediatelyVery clean and inviting ambiance that is better lit than many Thai restaurants. Waitress was fantastic. She brought water right away and refilled it regularly from a wine type bottle. Manager stopped by twice. They cook everything to order so it’s not a quick place to grab lunch, but everything is fresh and a good temperature when it arrives at the table. They seem to really care if you’re happy.
Our appetizers were the Notch confit chicken wings ($14) with Sweet Thai chili sauce and we’re delicious. Love how they’re dipped in Thai flour and then fried so they have little crispy bits for the sauce to cling to. If I’m going to be picky the flats were a tad over crispy. But still very good. And Shrimp satay ($8). Meh. Nothing special. 4 warm slightly limp shrimp on 2 skewers with a dipping sauce served on a bed of spring mix. Our entrees were: Green curry. ($13)they serve it medium which was very spicy. My friend could not eat it. I thought it was pretty hot too and a bit grainy in texture, similar flavor to Acasia and White Orchids. Idk why they don’t offer it with a shot or 2 of coconut cream so it cuts the heat to mild/moderate and makes it mildly sweet, brings out the rich flavor of the coconut milk base. Also some more vegetable color in the curry would be nice instead of only eggplant and green peppers. It was nice they cut the veggies into smaller pieces that fit in your mouth than what most Thai places serve We got the Green Curry with chicken and thought it was pretty chewy, slightly overcooked. I took the curry home, added 2 shots of Goya coconut cream and it was delicious for dinner. Seared Salmon ($10) - delicious. Crusted perfectly. Cooked perfectly. Great portion size. It rocked. Coconut ice cream was very good. Toasted sweet bits of coconut sprinkled in it. Prices are very fair to get all this food for $60 plus tip. What would I get again? The green curry with a request they add 2-3 shots of coconut cream from the bar or on the side. The chicken wings. The salmon And probably the coconut ice cream. They have several dishes with fresh mango offered. I’d love to see a mango and sweet pepper stir fry sweet Thai sauce dish with choice of protein. Mango shrimp is one of my favorite dishes and a best seller anywhere I’ve seen...
Read moreExpensive disappoint awaits. We gave this a try early this evening arriving for Happy Hour. We asked about a happy hour menu, and were told there wasn't one, however they advertise drink specials for happy hour on their Facebook page. A short time afterwards we were advised that we "didn't qualify for" happy hour unless we sat at the bar...completely absurd, never have I ever heard such nonsense.
We ordered 4 small plates and 2 entrees. The Thai money bags were the best of the apps, the corn fritters were ok, but some were extremely hot and some nearly cold - guessing they were fried at different times. The sweet potato wontons were ok. The chicken satay was very poor, dried out and smelled bad. One of the entrees ordered was the brisket udon, it was mediocre at best with 2 pieces of brisket that were akin to beef jerky or perhaps shoe leather. The other entree ordered was the green curry with brisket added, there was little to no brisket in this dish. It was edible, but not great and we didn't bother to take the leftovers. We also had 1 beer, which they brought in a can and didn't even offer a glass but instead a straw...who drinks beer with a straw? We also had an ice tea and a mango martini (also with a straw - weird).
Total for the order was just shy of $107. Way too much money for what it was. Service wasn't great, especially since there was nearly no one in there. Needless to say, we won't...
Read moreI met with 2 friends for lunch and we had a great time! We started with cocktails, all of which were very good! We tried the Mango Martini, Old Fashioned & The Bucks County Housewife. We were able to take our time and didn't feel rushed at all, which was nice because we were were there to catch up and visit. Our waitress was very attentive and checked in with us often, but not in a pushy way. For appetizers, we ordered the Thai Money Bags, Corn Fritters and Pork Belly Bao Buns- all delicious! 2 of us were new to Thai food, so we were having a hard time deciding what we wanted. The manager came out, answered any questions we had and made a few suggestions. Since we all wanted to try each entree, he offered to bring us sharing plates and a serving spoon, which was great! Everything was very good, but we were overly cautious and ordered the mild spice level. When the manager came over to see how everything was, we mentioned that next time we'd order a little more spice. He offered to bring us a side plate with 3 little containers of sauces and a dry rub that we were able to sample and add. That was perfect! We had plenty to eat and a bit to take home. We all agreed that it was a fantastic time and would definitely be back! Thank you, Little Orchids for a wonderful meal, drinks and place to catch up with friends! I'm looking forward to...
