Tom's Fried Pies — Restaurant in Richland

I saw Tom’s Fried Pies on MPB’s Mississippi Roads hosted by Walt Grayson this past Sunday and being that this restaurant is located in Richland I thought we would give it a try. It’s located in a strip mall but has this cool covered patio space with tables and chairs. You walk thru the patio to get into the restaurant, which is a walk-up counter service. It kind of has a retro feel which is cool. The service was great, we were greeted and welcomed with a smile. We didn’t get there until about 2 but they still had a decent crowd. We ordered the chicken and broccoli and roagie fried pies with slaw and potato salad and soda in glass bottles which was awesome. The pies are made to order but it still only took about 10-12 minutes to get ours. I had the chicken and broccoli pie which honestly tasted like a chicken pot pie but with cheese in the creamy filling. My husband had the rougie which had beef, onions, mushrooms and some veg in it, he said it was really good. It was hard to wait for the pies to cool off enough to eat them! The coleslaw was sweet and creamy and the potato salad had bacon in it so it was nice and smoky in flavor. I’m dinging the atmosphere a bit on this review because I felt like that patio could have been cheered up a bit. There was a table tennis table against one of the walls, so you couldn’t really use it, there wasn’t any music or TV’s, and they had those cute stringed outdoor lights but several bulbs needed to be replaced. This place has been on my Eat list for a minute now, we're just never out this way. We dropped by to pick up a snack, we ordered the Tex-Mex, Roagie, and chocolate cream pies. The meat ones are made to order, so expect about a 10 min wait, but no worries, there are plenty of fun collectibles to look at while you wait. Dessert pies can be made fresh to order too, or in their grab n go.

These pies are handheld sized, which is awesome so you're not stuck with a whole pie, and get to try a few different flavors. The crust is flaky, not too thick or overly doughy, the filling was full of flavor. Their potato salad is to die for, it's like loaded potatoes with bacon.

Let me say that I hate living so far from here. This was our first time having made to order, fresh fried pies and it was so good! Mr. Tom came out, he was so sweet!! Told us a little bit about his collection of plaques, and the history behind his pie shop. He asked my fiance to play a game of Chess, but I think the man wasn't in the mood to loose, so he didn't take on the challenge 😆

If you are hesitant on trying "Tom’s fried pies" for lunch or dinner- Don't!! You would be missing out on some of the best customer service from Shiann & Abram that my husband and I have came across in our retirement traveling in a long time- Top notch for the business owner, exactly what you would be hoping for-smiles, welcoming, knowledgeable on product recommendations - checked all the boxes! The pies I dare say one of the best things I have eaten! The Veggie beef pie- delicious! ( Imagine a hot homemade pot pie!) Tex-mex pie- spot on with seasoning! That touch of sour cream is perfect! Strawberry cream cheese pie : with a sprinkle of powdered sugar- warm, bites of strawberry, melty cream cheese- Scrumptious! Blackberry fruit pie- with glaze, warm, summer goodness!

The atmosphere clean, modern, and inviting!

I think this restaurant could expand to other states and knock it out of the ballpark, Top notch customer service, clean atmosphere, and great product!
