I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Poe Museum with its impressive collection of artifacts and photos, (deguerrotypes and the like) from Poe's life, and the accompanying descriptions. The grounds were peaceful but lacked in landscaping that would easily enhance the look and feel of the museum in general. Upon completing my self-guided tour, I visited the museum gift shop, in which I attempted to engage the attendant in conversation about what I had just learned while touring the museum. It was around 2 pm on Tuesday, and after browsing around, I commented on Poe's life and asked the attendant if he had seen a film about Shirley Jackson, whose photo was featured there in the gift shop. He said he had not, but didn't seem particularly interested in anything I had to say, which I found disappointing. Overall, I enjoyed each portion of the museum, which was organized generally by time periods and included a numbered audio tour. I was especially intrigued by the room that detailed Poe's mysterious death at age 40, and the subsequent attempts to determine the cause of his demise. I highly recommend this museum to anyone staying in or just passing through Richmond!

It has been a dream of mine for years to come to the Poe Museum. Poe has been my inspiration and fascination since I first began to read. The Poe Museum lived up to every expectation that I had. The Enchanted Garden is by far the most calming place I have ever been. Seeing Pluto and Edgar was top spot on my list during my visit. They of course made an appearance. Pluto laid in the grass and accepted pets from everyone in the garden. Edgar was lazing under a nice bush and while I said "Hello", I didn't want to disturb his slumber too awful much. They are both such handsome, sweet boys. Having these two cross your path is definitely good luck. The staff were so very kind and helpful. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking. I truly felt Poe's essence in the entire Museum and grounds. I actually started crying the minute I walked in. Thank you for having a place so steeped in Poe for people to experience. I recommend that if you love Poe, you must visit!

Amazing hidden gem right here! In the heart of Richmond, this museum has so much to offer. It’s in a small historic building and has way more than you’d think in terms of information and artifacts related to Edgar Allen Poe. They even have two cats that roam the property — one is even named Edgar! They have an option to do an audio guided tour and it is so worth it! All you need is to scan their QR code and it will bring up the audio tour — just remember to bring headphones. I learned so much from this museum and can’t wait to return. Their gift shop is great too with lots of options in a wide variety of price ranges so you don’t have to break the bank. Admission is only $9 for adults, but if you are active duty military you get to get in for FREE! Highly recommend this place if you are a history buff, poetry lover, or Edgar Allen Poe fan!

I’m a huge Poe fan, and I have plenty of Poe related tattoos to prove it. With that being said, we made the trip to Richmond, and visited the museum on a Sunday morning. I’m not sure how other days of the week are, but parking was a breeze. We were able to park in the gravel lot right next to the museum. We strolled the grounds for a couple of hours, taking photos and reading about everything there. It’s such a peaceful place, where you can actually feel Poe’s presence amongst everything on display. Check out their website before going. It’s a smaller place, and not The Met, but there are still plenty of things to see and learn. I wish the Gift Shop had more original things for sale. Most are things you can find online, or even make yourself.

I am absolutely in love with this museum. I saw it when I was younger on a school field trip to Richmond and visiting a friend I knew I had to go. It was very informative and so amazing! The staff was absolutely phenomenal and really connected with all the guests. It was so awesome to see a lot of his personal belongings and things Poe had. The enchanted garden was beautiful and I was immediately greeted by a fabulous furry friend Pluto while the tour guide recited a part of one of Poe’s poem. I will go back everytime Im in Richmond hand ✋🏽 down! As we departed Edgar (pluto’s brother) told us goodbye 👋🏽 Loved the gift shop as well also not to mention they are part of the movement for donating their walls, for artists ❤️🥰

I'm a native Baltimorean living in Virginia for 3 years and decided my 50th birthday trip would be finally going to see the Poe Museum since it's a huge part of my life. Many visits to the Poe House in Baltimore starting at 10 years old for a book report and Poe's burial place at Westminster Churchyard and Burial Grounds is always a big to do at Halloween and at Eddie's birthday. My brother and I were born in the hospital he died in and our middle names are Edgar and Virginia. Such an amazing collection! Fittingly, Pluto led us into the last building. 🐱 I'm a huge ailurophile. Gorgeous artwork and a real feeling of Eddie's presence. I plan to come back for some souvenirs and more visits, especially Unhappy Hour.
