Maya Latin Kitchen — Restaurant in Richmond

The BEST Mexican/latin food in the RVA area. I grew up in CA where the Mexican food is quite good and have not been able to find similar quality in Virginia. Maya’s surpasses most of the Mexican/latin food of California and is the best I’ve had in Virginia. You get real spice flavors, not the bland stuff, and I can tell whoever is behind the recipes and the restaurant ambiance has passion. My favorite is the Oaxaca burrito. The chips also have a very good spice and the salsa tastes homemade.

The service is good. It is a new restaurant (Sandston), and with that comes some need for minor improvements in service. Small things like keep the napkins full, but all the staff are friendly.

May also be good to put a spice/hotness level warning on some of the food. I am happy this restaurant has actual spicy food, but I know some in my party were surprised by that.

Food was GREAT, service TERRIBLE. Made our order, accidentally spilt my alcholic drink. Waiter said “ Don’t worry I’ll get you another” thinking I won’t be charged for it, and no, was charged for it. For me if that was the case then no I would T pay for another then! Understandable but at least communicate that to me! Two, asked for military discount (was with my wife). And they applied it, to JUST my order and not the price as a whole. Not even my actual ORDER, JUST the entree, which was a dollar.

Yea sucks because my drink and the food was WORTH coming back, but for that kind of service? Nah...

Do NOT scan the QR code on the receipt to pay. It is a scam and will steal your credit card and charge you $39.95 in fraud. I had to close my credit card. They also had a corn hole group out back that takes up all parking and trucks will block you in. They don’t move the trucks for you to back out. One of the people backed my car out for me. The group isn’t the issue, they were all very nice, but don’t block up the ability for people to back out.
