Update 7/7/24: Having been a customer here since the doors opened and even having had my picture previously up on the website as the first person to enjoy a pizza & beer combo, it is disheartening to me to edit my review. I know the the pervious main owner has since left the business and the restaurant has gone through a makeover. However my issues currently stem from the steady 1) decrease in the quality of food, in terms portion and requests, along with what I would call 2) lazy and unknown kitchen hours.
Since the change I have noticed portions of toppings decrease in size which depending on who is making the pizza that can change. However it has been constant enough across multiple orders and different pizzas that I took notice. Along with most recently, when requesting no onions and extra bacon on a wood fired garlic mashed potato pizza. Finding some onions and barely enough bacon to count towards what would normally come on the pizza, let alone the request for extra. This has happened several times, I had repeated the order so see if it was a fluke or a new norm. Unfortunately it seems to have become the norm. My original review even recommended to newcomers to try the garlic mashed potato, it was once a fan favorite.
Today 7/7/24 my wife and I arrived to the restaurant at 8:20pm, online the restaurant is listed being open till 9pm. We have arrived within the last hour before tonight several times, our orders ready to go to allow for a quick exchange. Tonight we were told however that the kitchen had already closed at 8pm and it was explained that this was a regular occurrence if the restaurant is not busy enough. Also moving forward we should make sure to call in that last hour to call and see if the kitchen is still open. There were still groups sitting outside, a few individuals at the bar. I find it hard to believe that they had all received there food with enough time before 8pm to allow for such prompt closing of the kitchen. I am also unsure why post hours online that you might subject to change and not note it. I can only speak for myself but I would rather see online show the kitchen closing at 8pm but the restaurant open till 9pm to then either call or arrive at the restaurant to be told luckily enough they are still open.
I take no pleasure in changing my review, I have been a long-time loyal customer and it is quite unfortunate to see a place that I enjoyed since its doors opened start taking a turn for the worst. I will need to take serious considerations in giving my patronage moving forward.
Previous Review: Food is always tasty, staff is always friendly, good wine and beer selection. Vegan crust available le for those who want it. Different crust styles means you can always try a different combination. Try something new when you come, even if the pizza sounds crazy like the garlic mashed potato, it...
Read moreWe live in New Jersey, and our favorite daughter lives in Connecticut. When it came time to plan her bridal shower, we wanted a place that felt meaningful—and 850 Wood Fired Restaurant was the perfect choice. It’s become a go-to spot for our family whenever we visit Connecticut, and it also happens to be our daughter’s favorite, so the decision felt personal and right.
Though we had never hosted an event there before, we were fortunate to work with Dominika, the event coordinator specialist. From the very first interaction, she was inordinately responsive, thorough, prompt, and—most of all—genuinely caring. Her attentiveness wasn’t just professional—it was heartfelt. At one point, she even FaceTimed us from Poland, while on vacation, just to address a few questions. That single act spoke volumes about her commitment.
Dominika handled every detail with grace, offering flexible solutions and clear communication that made the planning process smooth and comforting. On the day of the shower, she was fully present—not just overseeing from a distance, but actively engaged. We happened to catch her quietly wiping down the leg of a chafing dish that had been splattered with tomato sauce. A small moment, perhaps—but it captured the pride she takes in her work and the standard she holds for her events.
The entire staff at 850 was wonderful, and we want to especially commend Brian for his warm, attentive service. Our only regret is that 850 isn’t in New Jersey. But for a day as important and memorable as this, it was more than...
Read more850 is an Italian food restaurant with a special focus on pizza, but with many other entrees including pastas, sandwiches and salads. This review is centered on their main focus - pizza.
The pizza is offered in wood-fired, NY style or ultra-thin. This is great in concept but 850 falls flat in bringing these to life. The wood-fired and NY style are disappointingly virtually indistinguishable, with the same thickness, chew and crust and unfortunately not resembling either description. Both pizza crusts lacked any character, the sauce was bland and overall they were both very disappointing. I've actually had better frozen pizza than this. Neither pie resembles Neopolitan or NY style at all.
The service is just ok...our server missed an opportunity to serve another glass of wine for most of the meal, and this was during a very slow evening. Another person, presumably the manager also passed by several times and missed the opportunity. 850 could do themselves a favor by focusing more on their patrons.
The interior is comfortable and includes some very generous-sized booths, and the wine and beer selection is appropriate. Parking in back can be a bit challenging so plan a few extra minutes to get there.
Overall it's one of many good choices in Ridgefield to eat at although it ironically fails to deliver on its main focus of pizza. If you are focused on authentic pizza there are many other places in the area focused on NY, Neopolitan and other types that are true...
