9/25 - This version of UB40 was entertaining.
6/25 - Legendary Robin Trower rocked the house in this sold out show.
11/24 - To see "The English Beat" led by Dave Wakeling, also of "General Public," was such a joy. Everyone was dancing in their seats if not on their feet. I could see them every month.
5/24: Great to see Steve Kazlauskas again with his "Echoes of Sinatra" band. Absolute great rendition of "At Last" by Etta James sung by Rhonda Denet.
6/23: Blues legend Buddy Guy gave an awesome performance this June evening. Not a seat to be had. Unbelievable skill as a musician, song set, and humorous comments made it one of my best shows ever.
August 2022: Songwriter Lyle Lovett is a unique combination of talented musician and insightful lyricist. Displaying all of these gifts on stage,he brought his usual humor to the microphone - the same remarks that used to make Johnny Carson crack up in his appearances on "The Tonight Show." Playing 2 1/2 hours with no sign of fatigue or obligation, his amazing large band expertly performed songs from his early album "Pontiac", "That's Right (You're Not From Texas" ) and the title track of his new release "The Queen of Know." He was pleased to play a request for "Penguins."
August 2022: How incredible to see someone at this level in such a small venue. I became aware of his music in 1990 in Aspen when a friend gave us "Chris Isaak" (1987) and "Heart Shaped World" (1989). What a gift. We listened to these melodic and poignant songs all the time. Isaak played "Blue Hotel," along with his best known song, "Wicked Game" which started with a fine guitar solo from Hershel Yatovitz.
He sang three covers. I'd like to think this was due to the Sun Studios t-shirt my companion wore, but probably not. "Ring of Fire" - Johnny Cash; "Only the Lonely " - Roy Orbison; "Suspicious Minds" - Elvis Presley. Loved his "Ring of Fire." Chris also told amusing real life stories about his career. Love his flashy suits.
6/2022: Wynton Marsalis gave a performance one would only expect from this jazz and classical trumpet player who has too many awards to list. I had not seen him since 1990 when he closed Lloyd's, Hartford, CT's only jazz club. He remains an expert at his craft, and his young talented band all deserved to be on stage with him. 90 minute show with no note worth missing. Packed house. Enjoyed Wynton's narratives before each tune.
3/2022: "It was 50 years ago today" rocked the house with musicians Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross, Jason Scheff (Chicago), Badfinger and Denny Lane (founder of The Moody Blues and Wings). Fans loved every minute. The band featured songs from Beatles albums "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" with fine expertise, as well as songs from their own best selling libraries.
May 2021: The Playhouse is bringing some entertainment outdoors within a large tent on the grounds. A stage is set up in front for the talent. Bar outside.
We had a good time watching "Echoes of Sinatra," A Celebration of a Man & His Music, featuring singer Steve Kazlauskas. His band included a saxophonist, drummer and keyboard player. Steve's performance was relaxed as he combined well-known Sinatra tunes with lesser known stories about Sinatra's life and career.
2020: An enjoyable evening watching the film "Meeting the Beatles in India." Paul Saltzman's real life experience moves right along with precise direction and editing. There are laughs, insights, trivia, commentators and music, of course.
Socially distanced seating is sectioned by rows which you're brought to by an usher. Bottled cocktails available. {RP is within a large complex. Drive in, park, and walk to the theater. The entrance has a large yellow smiley face sculpture at the base of the steps. Ample parking with grassy hills and trees}
February 2020: The concert with Beatles cover band "The Fab Four" sold out quickly, yet we managed to get two seats in the upper back rows of the balcony. Taking our seats, we didn't feel like we saw any less of a show than if we'd been closer. It's a no bad...
Read moreStaff was rude and unhelpful to the point of creating a miserable end of the evening with Thomas John. I had a VIP ticket, purchased weeks in advance, and was not given any instruction nor told I needed a VIP bracelet when I entered the venue and staff took my ticket at entrance. (VIP was printed on my ticket) When it came time for VIP meet & greet, I was told I had to leave and get a bracelet from box office. Was forced out, went to box office to retrieve my bracelet and box office was shut down and closed. Went back inside theater and told staff that box office was closed. I showed my ticket and receipt, not wanting to miss any of the VIP session. The director would not even look at my ticket or receipt and said very patronizingly to someone another staff member "this person BELIEVES she has VIP" insinuating that I was lying. Still refusing to even look at my receipt/ticket. Was ushered back to box office, she shut the theater doors shut behind us and finally got my bracelet. By the time I got back in, I missed half the Q&A. It should be noted that there were 4 or 5 others going through the same back and forth and were not informed that a special bracelet was needed when they entered either. It was not only insulting to be treated this way, but it put a really bitter taste in my mouth for the rest of the VIP portion - the largest price point of the purchase was for the VIP experience. On top of being forced to miss part of the session because the staff did not instruct anyone on needing a bracelet upon entrance or at any point until the session already began. Only once VIP session started was this information provided. They could have informed us when we arrived, when they took my ticket or at any other point in the show. The staff was rude, unapologetic and incompetent. I paid a lot of money to have that VIP experience and it was completely ruined. I will be making a formal complaint. I did not get what I paid for and was treated like a second class citizen by staff who were not helpful and wouldn't even attempt to look at my ticket/receipt to assist me, they made blind assumptions that poisoned the...
Read moreThe Ridgefield Playhouse never fails to please us! Most of the time, it doesn't even matter where you are seated, as there isn't a bad seat in the house! 👏🎤🔊🎸 We had the pleasure of seeing Pat Benatar together with Neil Giraldo most recently which was just AMAZING! I loved "her" music back in the day and this was my first time seeing her. I'm also from Queens, NY. My family moved to CT when I was a Sophomore in HS and things weren't great. Especially when I moved to Ridgefield from Wilton, one of their biggest rivals😦 after just being a student there for 1/4 of a year. Our graduating class of 1981 was a favorite among the school's principal, other administrators and teachers! Unfortunately, I haven't been to any of our class reunions as yet, I hope to change that!😉💞
I know that we will enjoy seeing concerts and other incredible shows at the Ridgefield Playhouse as often as our schedule permits!! 😆😎👏👍💓🤗😀🎤🔊🎸🎹🎧🎶🎙 WE LOVE IT!! -- My best recommendation would be to get there early and try one of the many, first-class, taprooms/restaurants, in town, before the show. Yum! 🤗😘😋❤ Also, it may be difficult to get moparking at the show if there is a sports tournament simultaneously. You may want to arrive a bit early too make sure that you get your spot in time for the concert. ⏳☄
For those artists who are so inclined, as they're leaving the theater, such as Todd Rundgren (in the past he'd be ready to autograph anything, now NOT so much but it HAS been a long career!), Kasim Sultan who has worked with Todd on most of his projects as well as his own, ❤ rock musical career 😍 have been more than gracious! I hope that I can some day add to my autograph collection, but for now, we are ready for more concerts!!...
