The food is some of the BEST I've had, besides what you cook at home. That earns 5 stars. However, this restaurant needs to work on logistics/service, so I'm hoping my low score gets their attention to my recommendations. The line was out the door (which was a good sign to me). I waited in line only about 5 minutes to order to-go, only to be told there's a to-go register I could've immediately gone to. This register needs a clear sign above it - you don't know it's there in the back unless someone happens to tell you about it.
I was then instructed to sit on a bench until my food was brought to me. While sitting there, I overheard several customers who were confused by the 2 dine-in registers & whether there were two separate lines or one line that diverted to whichever register became free. There needs to be a divider in order to get more people in line, out of the heat, & organized.
I sat on the bench for 30 minutes, thinking that maybe mine was taking longer since I didn't order the special of the day. The lady who took my order also had a clear view of me, so I assumed she would've gotten my food to me if it happened to be ready. Finally went up to the hidden register - my catfish had been sitting on the counter for 25 minutes. Nobody had called my name or came to the bench I was told to wait at. And fish is not really something you want to sit out for half-an-hour. When I mentioned I had been waiting about 30 minutes for my food over by the bench, the lady just shrugged & asked if I had paid already. No apologies.
Since the food was so good (even though it was lukewarm), & this was only my 2nd visit (my 1st visit had zero problems, food brought directly to that bench), I'll be visiting again & hope to be able to chalk this up to a one-time hiccup. This is a restaurant I would like to...
Read moreTrace Grill's food and timely service is incredible at lunch! There are ample meat selections, and the variety of vegetables and sides is great!
While I don't want to say anything negative, I also believe honesty is best and owners and managers can't fix what they don't know about. The only time I have been displeased has been at night, and we have gone a couple of times. On one occasion, and we are always a big group, my husband's burger was not hot, but his onion rings were cold and swimming in grease. When I took them to the counter, explained what was wrong, and asked for a replacement, the young lady acted like she didn't care and didn't know what to do. We received onion rings after almost everyone was through eating. They were better. I don't remember what I ate now, but I do remember being disappointed and saying, "They are so good at lunch."
The owners have been so kind and friendly. Our family enjoys interacting with the owners and family members, and we have been going to Trace since it was in the old place.
Since I was gone and could no longer make bread pudding for him, my daddy tried Trace's, and he and my mom "loved" their bread pudding. A few days after my dad's funeral, we went to Trace and ordered several bread puddings to share in memory of my dad. The owner asked about my dad because he wasn't with us, so we told him that my dad had died and mama explained what we were doing. In what was a very sweet moment and a lovely gesture, he gifted the desserts to us.
My mom and family eat there frequently, my nephews have worked there, and my mom treats me to lunch when I am in Mississippi. For lunch, you owe it to yourself to try them, and the...
Read moreI went to the Trace Grill by myself two weeks ago and got the red beans and rice. There was a half size and a full size. I like to eat, so I asked the lady at the counter if half size was enough. She said it was and she was absolutely correct. It was really good, too When my coworker came back to work, I took him. I had the chicken and dumplings. It was the best I've ever had at a restaurant, and there was so much of it. My coworker had the bbq chicken. He must have enjoyed it, because we both decided to go back this week. We had hamburgers and both really enjoyed them. Everything I've had from here is off the chain, and I'm pretty sure I'll be returning weekly. The food always comes out fast. Give it a try. My recommendation is the chicken and dumplings with a side of mac and cheese.
My only suggestion would be to read the menu ahead of time or grab one off the table to the left as you walk in, because you might find it hard to read the menu hanging above the registers where you order your food. Oh and don't get the side salad. It's literally iceberg lettuce and dressing. Like absolutely nothing else. Really strange for a place with such good food. I mean... Toss a tomato and a little...
