Update:: 04/17/25:: Aldos is our favorite pizza joint in ABQ and especially the Westside. Stopped last night to get a pie to go. Ordered two diet coke fountains with a salad as well. The soda was flat. As fate would have it there was no more canister soda. The owner offered a 2-liter instead, but they were out of those and 12oz bottles. Apparently, Coke did not deliver enough product. Next thing we know the owner is on his way out the door to the gas station to buy a two- liter of diet Coke for us. He more than we t out of his way to remedy the situation. Of course the pizza was hot and the cheese pulled all gooey and melted when we lifted a slice. The salad was crisp and cold and hot the spot in-between each delicious bite. If you want authentic NY style pizza head right to Aldo's. You will not be disappointed. Is it a hole-in-the-wall? You bet! But it's the kind of place that you go to because it feels like home and you can kick back and relax and enjoy a slice. This is the kind of place I look for because 9 times out of 10 the food is above par. Aldo's is no exception.
I wanted a traditional, NY style pizza from a local pizzeria. Aldo's was the answer. Ordered a 16"Hawaiian pizza. Took a seat to watch Empire Strikes Back on a TNT marathon. Very typical pizza joint interior. Nothing fancy but also nothing unacceptable either. There was a steady flow of traffic of folks picking up pies. The counter staff seemed to know everyone who came to the counter. After approximately 15 minutes my name was called and my pizza was handed over to me, fresh from the oven. The pizza inside was perfect. A generous amount of toppings and cheese. My only con, and the reason I did not give a 5 star review is because the huge menu hanging above the counter, did not have any prices listed, only $. I will be back when I have a hankering for a NY pie. --------------------- Still the best NY Pizza...
Read moreWe came back yesterday to order a calzone with green chile, baked ziti with meat sauce, and a small pizza with pepperoni, black olives, and green chile.
Wow! The ziti was very good and included garlic bread. The meat sauce was very flavorful and since I'm part Italian, and make my own spaghetti sauce, that's a compliment. The calzone's crust was exquisite (my hubby is a baker) and the blend of ricotta, mozarella, and parmigiana cheeses was scrumptious with the green chiles!
The calzone was big by the declining standards of other places around here. Finally, the small, regular crust pizza with pepperoni, black olives, and green chile was fantastic! The crust was crispy, very tasty, and not at all greasy like we usually end up with on a pepperoni pizza. The cheese was quality mozarella and pulled in strings, away from the slice (like it's supposed to:-)!
We got the Vegetarian Style pizza (well done) a couple of nights ago and it was very tasty. I like the crust. This was the first time we've ordered here since it was Venezia's. I have found that the crust of much of the pizza I've enjoyed in Rio Rancho has gone down hill lately. I don't like the cardboard after-taste. I'm glad we tried Aldo's! It reminded me more of some of the great Chicago pizza we had when we lived there. Any time you can get a bit of buttery pastry taste to your crust you're going to outshine the competition! Good job Aldo's! ...
Read moreI don't mean any disrespect in my review. I'm just replying to your comment about prices going up, and you have to keep the doors open. I truly don't believe that because I'm an ex pizza shop owner. Your cost to my large pizza it's barley $3.00! This surcharge fee is only to cover the cost of the credit/debit card machine that you use because the bank charges you per transaction to use it. This has nothing to do with prices going up and down, and I'm sure you can't argue this point, right? To me, it is very cheap for a business owner to charge his customers to cover his service fees. Your pizza prices are already overpriced! You should not be charging your customers your bank's fee! You know what's funny also? Ordering your pizza online, it doesn't ask you to pay that service fee! This is so wrong Sir and, it just cost you someone's business for life. There's is so much profit in the pizza business for you to nickel and dime over a few cents. I've met you in the past and we have talked. you're a very nice person so it's nothing against you. It's just about doing the right thing when running a business because you will get customers like me who are sensitive to their rights and cost you more business, that's all. Again, I won't be eating your pizzas anymore. Thank you for replying...
