My family & I have dined there a few times, the first time we dined there they charged me for 2 orders of chips & salsa when the server only gave us 1 basket with burnt chips that we could barely eat because they were that burnt. The female server didn't check on us except once, but checked on all the other tables many times, I had to walk up to counter & ask the young male server for silver wear & napkins. The second time we dined there I saw on the menu that chips & salsa are free when dining in, so I don't know why they charged me twice the last time we dined there. Also I ordered the 6 taco plate which says it comes with a free drink, but got charged for the drink. Plus the prices online are less from the menu inside the restaurant, which is a bit deceiving, so if you look at their menu online first before dining there just be aware you will pay more than what you saw online. Plus they charge for sopapillas, most other restaurants they are free with your meal when dining in, we did not know this till we got the bill. Overall the food is good. But think they need to be more clear with pricing, not bring you chips & salsa unless you order if they are going to charge you for them, the same with the sopapillas & do not offer a free drink with a meal if you still charge for the drink. Update: Thak you for replying so quickly to the review, but still not clear about how my family & I were charged for 2 orders of chips & salsa when we dined in your restaurant when the female server only served us 1 order of chips & salsa with the chips burnt and we would have told the female server about the burnt chips if she came back to our table. That evening I had to get up & ask another server for napkins & silverware so we can eat our food. We never received any free chips & salsa that evening like you stated for free but instead we were charged for 2 orders. We dined in for the tacos that states it comes with a free fountain drink but we still were charged for the drink it was not free like you say & yes we dined in, did not split the tacos, the male server told us the fountain drink was free when he took our order. We have been charged for items that you have at your restaurant that say free not just one time but two separate times we dined in. Also it's not clear that we did not order sopapillas the server brought to our table at the end of our meal, we were never told that you charge for sopapillas so that should be made very clear to all customers that you charge for sopapillas they are not free before one of the servers brings them out to your...
Read moreI stopped into El Agave Family Mexican Restaurant for a solo weekday lunch and ordered the veggie burrito plate. Upon being seated, I was promptly brought a basket of warm, freshly fried tortilla chips and homemade salsa - a nice touch while waiting for my meal.
The veggie burrito arrived piping hot and overflowing with flavorful fillings. It was stuffed with bell peppers, onions, avocado, lettuce and tomatoes. On the side, a hearty portion of rice and refried beans provided a satisfying base. The fresh veggies provided a delightful crunch and cool contrast to the warm burrito. I ordered the burrito with both the signature green and red chiles, which elevated the flavors to the next level. The melted cheese tied all the ingredients together perfectly.
The burrito was a generous portion, with plenty to take home for leftovers. It was one of the best veggie burritos I’ve found in the Rio Rancho area. Between the fresh chips and salsa, and the stuffed, satisfying veggie burrito, I couldn’t have asked for a better lunch.
El Agave Family Mexican Restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere perfect for dining solo. The service was attentive without being overbearing. And the food was authentically flavored and promptly served. I highly recommend stopping in for the veggie burrito or any of their other appealing Mexican fare if you’re looking for a tasty, casual lunch or dinner in Rio Rancho. It’s...
Read moreGood parts: food was decent. Kind servers.
Bad parts: after we got our bill, we were surprised to be charged for small things. For example, I asked for green chili on the side and got a 2-3 ounce cup of green chili. When I asked for more they charged us for it without telling us. They charged for a second basket of chips for 7 people when they only brought out two to begin with. We felt like we were being taken advantage of. Nickel and dimed. Also, the price point is high for what you pay. There are other restaurants with as good or better food, better atmosphere, same price point and who don’t charge you for extra chips and sopas.
Heads up to other customers.
Note to the owner. I get that you need to make money to survive. But charging for things you don’t need to do not equate to repeat business. Good luck with that.
Response to owners response: I disagree with your reply. Your charges may be stated in your menu but that does not negate the fact that you nickel and dime customers. I don’t want to check the menu to be sure I won’t be charged $2 for a little more sauce. That, and the chips, were simply a poor judgment call and one which you took advantage of. You should probably just own it rather than try to deflect and cover the bad policy. No, we will not be back and I will tell everyone I know about our experience, and the way you...
