Food, service, seating time, and amount of food you get along with a great atmosphere make this a place to frequent!
the above was 2 years ago!. Here is one for today
So, today I went to pick up my friend, Maria, and take her to lunch, as we often do once every 1 or 2 weeks. Today, like always, I asked her where she wanted to go. I have to give her options or she will not be able to relate a relevant one. So, with that being said, I gave her Wecks, Panera and Flying Star, she chose Wecks. Right from the start it seemed to be a bit of a struggle. The Host was in an uproar or a bunch of folks that didn’t wait to be seated and found themselves at a dirty table. We stood in line and waited for this brief period of craziness to subside. We go to our table and found ourselves in the company of an elderly gentleman and his dog. They were both so very interesting and the gentleman relayed to me that his dog was 13 years old, while he was all of 93. Bless his soul! He talked about everything from the acreage he has and still works to his days in the military when he was overseas during the second world war and how he met so may folks from Hungary in the concentration camps. I thought, wow, I would like to get this guy’s meal, he had 2, one for him and one for his dog. I tried to get ahold of his waitress to tell her to give me his tab, but she was nowhere to be found. I did, however, get ahold of someone to relay this to her, only to find that he had already paid. Oh well, so we just continued to chat. By now, my friend Maria was already to his table and petting his dog, with his permission, I must add. It was our time to order. Maria ordered a chicken breast sandwich with only cheese and tomato, it was on the menu to include fries. She only asked for ketchup with this. I ordered a lunch burrito. When our food came out Maria noticed that her chicken breast had Bacon on it. Maria doesn’t eat pork, neither of us do, and it was melted into the cheese. She told the waitress that delivered the food this and they took the whole plate back. She told them that they could keep the buns as well, but that was no big deal if it was there. When the waiter came back he brought a small plate with a chicken breast, one tomato slice and one slice of, what looked like the Kraft cheese food slices slapped on the top. No fries, no other garnish, nothing. When we asked where the rest was the waiter looked at us like we were lost? I told him that all they needed to do was remove the bacon, put a new slice of cheese and call it a day. So, he went back to the kitchen, brought out a bowl of fries and a plate with lettuce and one slice of a tomato. Ok, well, we just ate our food and thought this just must not be the day for us to eat out. Then the bill came, I was looking at this small receipt and found that they had decided to charge individually for each item on Marias’ plate. 1.09 for the slice of cheese, 1.00 for the slice of tomato and 4.00 for the chicken breast. When I questioned the waiter he took the receipt back and came back with a less expensive one, as he gave a Sr. discount for the meal! OMG, well darn, that wasn’t on the tab originally, so, I guess it’s a senior discount or a full dollar for a tomato slice! I think what I am noticing is that the restaurants are in such dire straits that this is the new way of life. I think I like making my food at home, and going to a place and sharing my meal with my friends, one that I know who cooked it, where I bought it, and how much I paid for everything. The extra dollars saved from paying a dollar for a slice of a tomato can be put in my gas tank to take me to a place closer to the beauty of this world. The only thing that made this trip fun was meeting this elderly man that was so happy to share his stories! That, in itself...
Read moreI chose to have a Sunday breakfast here. I ordered french toast, eggs over medium, 2 pieces of bacon, orange juice and coffee The price was okay given the portions.
The server was pleasant and attentive. Unfortunately, she was hard to hear as the server at the table next to me was talking to her customers abnormally loud. Given the closeness of the table, I was surprised that I had a different server.
The food was overall disappointing. The french toast came with 6 half slices, a large portion, and was dusted with powdered sugar. The slices were thicker than an average piece of sandwich bread, but not overly thick. I prefer french toast that has evidence of browning and these slices had very little of that. The eggs were barely cooked, and not medium. The orange juice was supposed to be freshly squeezed, but it did not taste fresh to me. One positive note, the bacon was sizable and perfectly done.
This restaurant is okay for a traditional bacon and egg breakfast but not any better than Denny's or Village Inn. It does appear though from other reviews that the hotter dishes that include chilis and or cheese are liked by many.
The experience was made worse because the restaurant is very dark and dingy. I could see into the server area from my table which was a mess with trash on the floor. I saw one server drop trash on the floor and not bother to pick it up. The tables were in horrible condition with chunks missing from the table top making it easy to scratch your skin. See pics for both. Top all of that with an employee bumping my table with her hip while seating others. She pushed the table into me and made my coffee cup hit my teeth while I drank. I looked up at her and she did not bother to see if I was okay or apologize.
All in all, the experience was less than pleasant and I cannot recommend it. That said, there are pitiful lack if sit down restaurants to have breakfast (good or bad) in Rio Rancho. You may like it better than me if you like hotter, or...
Read moreWent to Wecks in Rio Rancho off of 528 for breakfast with my wife and a friend...against my wife's suggestion that we go anywhere but there. The staff made her argument for her. The hostess got attitude when we requested to sit at a table other then the one she led us to. We waited for our server to finish her over 5 minute conversation with the folks at the table next to us to order our drinks. My friend clearly ordered water only and got coffee. Once again attitude. Our order came and the food was really pretty good. Only a couple problems that could of easily been taken care of but were not. As our food cooled down we finally got the attention of our server. We all needed eating utensils and napkins. Once again attitude and only after she helped some others first did we get our utensils. Oh and did I mention some attitude? My English muffin came pretty lightly warmed when I ordered it WELL done. The server did take it to be toasted again. No problem right? It came back perfectly toasted... well after we were done eating and again waiting for our empty coffee cups to be filled...again! But the amazing thing was how the server was in such a hurry to get us to pay. Shame on us for visiting with our out of town friend!. She took my card and I requested the senoir discount. It came back without said discount. Boy... I felt bad that I reminded her about the senoir thing. MAJOR ATTITUDE! The "I told you so" came easy for my wife. The manager asked us about the food and service as they do, and was actually wonderful with his pleasant and helpful manner. After all this I learned one profound thing...LISTEN to the wife. Somehow they...
