China Express — Restaurant in River Oaks

We just moved into a new apt and the menu for here was left on our door. Not knowing any other places that deliver besides Pizza Hut and Uber eats we decided to give it a try! A few TINY problems. The website that's on the menu we were given took us to a Chinese(?) Site for buying brides.....at least that's what it seemed from someone who doesn't read Chinese or whatever the language was. Pictures of women etc. So we just called instead. The woman who answered the phone while friendly it felt as though she was rushing us. We have never ordered from there so we ordered a lot and a normal speed. But eventually she said thank you and hung up. While we finished ordering we didn't give her our phone number, or gate code to our apt and had no idea how we were supposed to pay. So we called back and gave it and asked. She was very friendly just very fast for us having never ordered from there before. The delivery driver was extremely friendly just like the woman who answered the phone. We ordered terriyaki chicken, veggie friend rice, peppered steak and sweet and sour chicken. ALL IS FANTASTIC!! And it was all very well priced and good portions! We will for sure make this a place we order from frequently!!! We used to order Chinese once a month but quality went down hill while prices went up. So it's nice that there is now a fantastic place that has good quality and amazing tasting food AND a good price! Grossest Chinese food I've ever had! First off, as soon as I entered this place stunk so bad! Then I noticed all the food is already precooked sitting in a warming station that looked hours old. I asked the cashier if my food was cooked fresh or if it was from the warming station. She said all of it was cooked fresh except the broccoli and breef. I ordered sesame chicken, broccoli and beef, crab rangoons, with a spring roll, half noodles and half fried rice. To start off with the rangoons and spring rolls they must have only fried for maybe 30 seconds because they were so cold still on the inside. The noodles and rice were extremely bland and soggy and tasted old. The sesame chicken was so soggy I don't see how that was cooked fresh but she said it was, definitely not crispy. And sadly the best tasting item was the beef and broccoli which she said that was not freshly made. I would have given this place zero stars if that was an option!!! I definitely will not ever be back to this disgusting restaurant. Don't bother wasting your money because I wasted $17 and would go ask for a refund if I lived closer. Food has been good and fresh, even late at night for takeout. We have not ordered from the combination plate menu, which is on display when you enter, so we can't speak to that part of the menu. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. Pickup orders have been made in a timely manner. Often takes longer to pay than anything else. Food is either already ready or well in process by the time we arrive, after ordering online. Atmosphere is a bit cluttered but has always been very clean. There is a small dine-in area, but we have always gotten our food to go. Egg rolls are notably and consistently good, as is the chicken fried rice. Service is friendly, helpful, and efficient.
