*Be very careful when selecting any fresh or perishable food items from the Riverdale location.
We have been doing our weekly grocery shopping at the BJ’s in Riverdale for three years now. We have a large family so the bigger sizes of grocery staples really made the membership worth it. We used to shop in-store ourselves but the checkout lines became a bit much with a special needs child and a toddler. During peak times there will only be two cashiers for larger orders not allowed at self checkout. We switched to online ordering and picking up curbside, but again they only have one person bringing orders out. I don’t mind waiting, but when your order arrives you can’t unload it fast enough - they are essentially throwing things off the cart. The last few times they brought multiple orders out on the same cart and the customers were left to sort out what belonged to whom - I even had a women chase me down because she found part of my order in her vehicle. So we switched to online ordering with in-club pickup and always have to wait a minimum of 15-20 minutes in the club to have the order brought out to the pickup area. We’ve tried going later at night, during the day during the week, nothing seems to help.
This past Sunday I went in and there was a line to pickup, yet there was a supervisor (with a clipboard at the desk, obviously telling workers when to take their breaks, etc) who just stood there laughing and making jokes with the other employees while the pickup line grew longer and longer. When i finally got my order and got it out to the car I realized there were items missing (as usual.) I went back in, waiting again to get my items and when they came out they were wrong, so more waiting. In that same order were green beans that expired on 7/19 (handed to me on 7/20) that were just a soupy bag of mush and two containers of fresh berries that had obviously been spilled out and missing more than half. Rolls crushed, eggs cracked, fragile items under heavy items. Just not good.
My biggest issue though is the poultry products we have received the past three weeks - they are spoiled. The boneless chicken breasts and thighs (the store wrapped ones, not the name brand) have had a terrible rotten smell that will take over your refrigerator even though the dates are good. Washing and cooking the meat does not get rid of it, it needs to be thrown out. There must be an issue with proper storage because this past week I bought whole Purdue roasters and they were also bad. The packaging was actually bloated with gasses and the meat had turned gray even though the date was 7/28. I’m thinking they need to have their cold storage checked because this was not a one-off thing, it’s been almost a month of sour meat and I’ve thrown out well over $150 worth in that time.
Another thing that I have noticed is “out of stock” items are not always out of stock. I started going in to check myself and often find that the items are in the club but they just need to be taken down off the higher shelves and if you do online ordering the person picking the order will not facilitate that. I get the BJ’s brand bird seed and more often than not i have to go in and get that myself or they will just mark it as out of stock because it needs to be taken down with the forklift.
We’ve tried to make it work, but at this point it doesn’t feel right to continue to give them a good amount of money every week (food is not cheap!) for unsafe and damaged items combined with poor service. Maybe BJ’s needs to start paying a better rate to attract more workers so the store can be properly cleaned (the bathroom is just plain gross - as are the dairy storage areas) and customers serviced. It’s not hard to tell that the people working there are good workers tired of mismanagement - less whoever your front end supervisor guy is…..I certainly wouldn’t be laughing and joking if I ran a ship the...
Read moreI’ve been shopping here for years… years… I’ve spent thousands upon thousands of dollars. I can also prove that. Anyway yesterday Sunday October 5th I walk into the store. It’s time to renew. I have the 110 dollar membership. However that was a little expensive at the moment so I asked the bald rep at the counter if they were perhaps running any promotions of if there is something cheaper I can do. I’ve always had the 110 dollar membership. The rep replies “well unless you fill out for the credit card no there is nothing you can do you either pay the 110 today or fill out for a credit card and pay 90. I said “that’s it?” He goes yes that’s it. I said “ok” and I walked out. I get to the car and I do research. Well there is also a 60$ bjs membership. He didn’t even mention it. It’s like he just wanted me out of the store. The impression I got from him is he’s racist. That’s just my opinion but why else would you purposely run customers out of the store. Now here’s the kicker. I say to my wife let’s go to Wayne instead. I walk into the Wayne store and I explain to that lady I would like to downgrade my membership. She tells me “no need I see how much you spend and I appreciate your business so I’ll give you your plus membership for 60$ for the next year”
That’s how you handle customers not like this guy who worked yesterday in Riverdale around 2ish I believe maybe a little earlier. To be honest I don’t think retail is a field he should be in. He’s one of those people who treats customers like crap when it’s literally his job to provide excellent customer service. This really happened no exaggeration. Night and day from Riverdale and Wayne. Mind you Riverdale knows me. I’m there ALL THE TIME. I know workers on a first name basis. This guy is really just a rude, angry at life person. But dude don’t take your issues out on customers. Man up and handle your stuff and treat people better because you never know...
Read moreToday I had a terrible experience with the old lady that checks the receipt at the door. I have 2 little boys (2 and 4 years old), we usually go every weekend to get stuff for the week. And when we go the person at the door is very friendly, polite, PROFESSIONAL… But whenever we have the bad luck to get this lady at the door… she is always very unpleasant and idk whats wrong with her.. always give us bad looks. BUT today she end up with my patience when she was MEAN TO MY KIDS!! Every time we go, the person at the door draws a happy face in the back of the receipt.. so my kids love it and they are used to that... (Actually there is a nice gentleman at that location that always draws happy faces and he likes do even draw bunnies lol so cute) … any way.. going back to my story … today that old lady pushed the car away and turned her face away when my boys asked to PLEASE draw a happy face. … My point in this situation is DEFINITELY not about the happy face. Is about being mean to a 2 and 4 year old kid! Come on!! Is a kid!!! My point goes to, if u can not deal with customers or people PLEASE DONT WORK AROUND PEOPLE!!! There is no meed to be mean to a kid… Overall I like Bjs… but today my kids where so confused why the old lady was being mean to them for no reason! If u wanna be mean ! Be mean to me! Not...
