Our first trip here was our last. We got the food we ordered, and it came out without too much wait. It could have been much quicker but it was a little busy, so maybe the cook can't handle busy times very well. (There is a sign saying they are needing to hire a cook with experience. But that's not an excuse, you're still open for business, you should be serving your customers) When the food did come out it was not hot. It was warm at best. There were 3 of us and all three had mediocre warm food. We ordered a pretty broad spectrum of food and we were equally unimpressed with all of it. To top things off, my wife ordered chocolate milk, and were pretty sure the milk was sour. When I called later to let the cranky lady know that 2 of the 3 of us were sick and vomiting and that the milk might be bad, she interrupted me to tell me the date on the milk. She knew the date off the top of her head miraculously. I wasn't looking for a refund, or any sort of consideration in any way. I just wanted them to know that the milk may have soured. And seriously, who hasn't bought a fresh gallon of milk and gotten home to open it and find it soured? I was just trying to help. But the instant denial was frustrating. I also ordered their Ribeye and eggs breakfast. I have never had a less flavorful steak. It looked like a decent ribeye was purchased then cut in half horizontaly it was so thin. Then it had been scored open in 3 different spots (perhaps to check if it was done) so that it was overcooked around those spots. When asked how I wanted my steak, I said medium rare. This steak was medium well to well all throughout.
My family of 4 that just moved into the neighborhood was looking for a nice down-home place to try, and this looked like it. It was not. We will not ever return.
I always encourage people to explore for themselves in my reviews, but this is one time I would recommend you not waste your time and try something else. I understand a place can have a bad day, but I'm not willing to try this place again.
And, I'm ranting now, they have pictures of their menu up for people to see online. Their prices are outdated. So where I thought I'd be spending 30 to 40 dollars, we spend almost 60. 60 bucks for bad breakfast is terrible.
The coffee was pretty good. I guess if you're looking for a cup of coffee, it's not a bad choice, if there's a place at the counter.
There was a young lady server that was busting her but and working her tail off. It did not seem like she was appreciated at all. Shame on you for not taking better care of her. She was the one positive experience there. I wish I had her name to add her but there can't be too many young women working there.
Still feel 3 stars is too high. But I've never left 2 stars for a restaurant that actually served our food. Good luck out there Dayton. A good breakfast is becoming a hard...
Read moreSo glad I found this place searching for non chain places near by not only do we like to support small businesses the food is usually far better. We set out this late morning for a good diner style breakfast and it did not disappoint. There’s something so comforting about walking in the door and feeling like it’s filled with regulars! After our first visit today we might be well on the way to becoming one ourselves because if the friendly atmosphere, options on the menu items ie crispy desiredness and those PRICES people you can’t beat this place. Two full meals, one add on side of hash browns for just over 20$ Staff friendly and quick to great and provide menus. I ordered French toast and bacon (this is my go to) and when it came out freshly cooked my first thought was I hoped the appearance of egg around my toast didn’t prove to give me the egged toast taste that you sometimes get. (I know, I know people French toast is made with eggs, but it’s also heated with some type of cream which usually doesn’t give the ‘batter’ around it an eggy appearance). It arrived lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar -this was another option given I buttered & syrup’d it all up and it was great; it was soft and crispy at the same time and my side of bacon was appropriately crispy not overly done to a burnt state and it was flavorful bacon not the super thin strips you get so many places that lack any flavor. Husband was happy with his meal as well, I know we’ll be back as we were already making plans for what was next to try pending on what...
Read moreMy wife had been to Debbie's before, but it was my first time. We arrived for breakfast at 10:00. There were plenty of cars in the parking lot, which was a good sign. When we walked in, there were some seats available at the bar. We were served and greeted promptly. Prices were reasonable. Breakfast is served all day, but lunch/dinner options abound. There was a hometown atmosphere. We spoke with the owner, Mike, who is Debbie's son; he shared that she had passed away about 18 months ago.
Everyone here takes pride in what they do, and they do it with kindness. My wife ordered Debbie's omelet (which comes with toast) and coffee; I ordered two eggs, bacon, home fries, and biscuits & gravy with coffee. The coffee was excellent, and when the food arrived about 8-10 minutes later it was all fresh, plentiful, and delicious. By the way, syrup is kept warm if that's your thing.
As you eat, quiet music plays, polite conversation surrounds you. A TV behind the counter displays ads for local businesses. Regulars are greeted by name as they show up. Even if you're new to the establishment like me, you're treated warmly. The decor is more functional than aesthetic, but the people you spend your time with more than make up for it. I felt like I belonged, and that says a lot.
Debbie's will now be one of my regular...
