This rating is bittersweet. My family and I have eaten here for years, but I will no longer after what I saw last night. My husband and I stopped in for a late dinner (close to closing) and we ordered our rolls. In the corner of the restaurant one of the waitresses was refilling the soy sauce bottles. That's fine, as most restaurants refill ketchup bottles, etc. That wasn't the problem. The problem was that I saw her pouring all the remaining soy sauce from the rest of the bottles into one main pitcher. She then proceeded to place all the newly empty bottles with lids in what looked like a water bath to soak. Here I thought this is a strange practice, but figured, maybe this is how it's done in a sushi restaurant. After they had soaked for a few seconds/minutes she then began removing the bottles from the water bath, dried them and the lids and proceeded to refill the bottles with the SAME soy sauce that she added to the soy sauce pitcher. This is where I thought it started to get disgusting. Again, I'm not sure how things work in a sushi restaurant, but this didn't seem right. I assumed that the restaurant would either a) discard all the sauce from the bottle if it was being removed and wash the bottles for re-use or b) just wipe the down the bottles and re-fill with NEW soy sauce. Neither of this is what happened. The whole situation looked gross and made me feel nauseous. What tipped the scale for me was seeing that she was eating her own bowl of edamame WITH HER HANDS and was placing those same hands into the water bath with the "clean" soaking bottles. I think it is very disgusting to work with communal food while eating. She absolutely DID NOT wash her hands. This is a health and safety violation as this is how diseases spread. It is NEVER OK to eat (putting your fingers in your mouth) and touch "clean" food containers with those same hands/fingers. I kept thinking of all the other items in the restaurant that she may have touched without washing her hands. Gross! I would recommend that if a restaurant is going to practice poor food preparation technique and not follow basic state Food Handlers Regulations, then they should stay in the back out of the public's view. I will NEVER eat...
Read moreYeah, wow. The food is okay, definitely not a bad place in that regard. However, the service has never been good. At best, we've been treated fine, but usually, no matter who I bring there, we're treated with a huge attitude problem. There was a miscommunication with our order and it was NOT handled well by the waitstaff. They just repeated themselves over and over and clearly were just already over interacting with us. Another waitress came over and smacked the food down on the table and walked away with a huff. It was like every possible interaction that could be had left a bad taste in our mouths. Despite the fact we split the check between the AYCE people at our table and the non-AYCE people, they charged everyone with automatic 15% gratuity. They did NOT do thisto us last time we came, so either it was an unfortunately-timed change in policy, or they were just being a little extra with us on top of everything else. Finally, they just didn't bring our cards back. We sat there for a while, at minimum ten minutes, without a word, and one of the waitresses just wordlessly started taking our plates from our table, like a not-so-subtle "get out of here already." We eventually just had to get our cards ourselves by requesting them from the woman at the front desk. We usually just deal with the snark we get there because it's a convenient spot, and we've even defended this place to friends that have already written this place off, but I think this final experience put the nail in the coffin. Tl;Dr, if you don't care how you're treated, it's a good place to go. If you like being treated well and your food being great, go to...
Read moreI just wanted to share my experience quickly.
Closing time today is 10p. I called at 9:20p to place phone order for pick-up. Person who answered couldn’t hear me, so after a few hellos, they hung up. I thought my phone service was acting up, so I moved locations in my house & called again. Call went straight to voicemail. I wait a couple minutes & call again, but my 3rd call again goes straight to voicemail. I thought maybe my phone was acting up, so I had my partner call from their phone, & same thing, straight to voicemail. I called a couple more times, but all my calls were going straight to voicemail. My assumption is that they turned their phone off after my initial call.
I decide since I can’t get ahold of them on the phone, I’ll drive over to place my take-out order in person. I open the door to the establishment at 9:38p & the hostess says they just did last call, that they close at 10p, & they won’t be taking any more orders. We say thank you & leave.
To be fair, my 1 star rating doesn’t reflect the customer service or food, as they were polite enough & I didn’t get to taste their food, but I don’t agree with how they’re handling this business. If you’re not taking orders after 9:20p or 9:30p, that should be reflected on your Google info, so customers aren’t wasting their energy trying to patronize an establishment that clearly doesn’t want...
