Yesterday we got dinner from Doc's Street Grill in Roanoke.
It's only to-go orders so we ordered via phone and picked them up. We got a Keto bowl with chicken, collards, and broccoli stirfry with medium spice; a Keto bowl with chicken, collards, and cabbage stirfry with medium spice; a Shrimp Platter with fried rice and broccoli stirfry with mild spice; and a Calypso bowl with shrimp and fried rice with hot spice. All were large sizes. Notice the same ingredients in multiple dishes.
To start, all the proteins were cooked perfectly! The chicken was nice and juicy and the shrimp was amazing.
Unfortunately, that's kind of where things end. The Keto bowl with collards and cabbage was SO salty it was inedible. The Keto bowl with collards and broccoli was fine. The broccoli with the shrimp platter was inedible because it tasted like moldy dirt. The calypso bowl with cabbage was fine, but a little too hot. How there was such variation between the dishes with shared ingredients is a complete mystery.
Lastly, the sizing was a little weird. For the price, you'd think a large size could possibly get you leftovers. Not at all, not even close. I don't even want to know how small the small would have been! Overall, it was not a good and kind of expensive experience.
We'll try them again at some point and let them know what the first order was like. But perhaps wait to if there are some better...
Read moreHusband and I stumbled on to this place and we couldn't be happier with the choices we made. Everything was good. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. We had to try a few items as this was our first time. We both shared chicken and beef meat pies, absolutely delicious. I preferred the chicken pie but both are equally delicious. We also ordered the dry rub chicken wings (10 ps) and my husband ate most of them before I could even finish my 3rd one. We both ordered the combo jerk chicken and pork. He had the red beans and plantains... I stole a few bites of his beans and regretted not ordering them myself. I will Difinatley order the red beans next time. I had the stirfry cabbage and broccoli as my two sides. Both the chicken and pork was well seasoned and we both enjoyed our dinner. We also shared a large lemonade, that was really refreshing too. Oh and don't forget the bourbon sauce which is the mild one vs the jerk sauce, both are good. We asked for it on the side vs on the meat. One last thing, unfortunately it's a little difficult to get to with road construction but it is definitely worth the trouble of...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem. We stumbled across this place out of curiosity and I am so glad we decided to eat here. The place is small but don't let that fool you. The food is amazing and cooked fresh to order. I would highly recommend you call ahead to place your order. It gets busy and you might have to wait for your food. We ended up ordering and then running some errands by the time we got back our food was hot and ready and smelled amazing. We were going to drive home but decided to eat in our car because we couldn't wait. It was that good. The Pork was my favorite with the chicken close second. My wife had the shrimp. We also had the Jamaican patties and plantains. Both a hit with our picky kids. I wish I could give it more starts. I will definitely be coming here more often.
One last thing. We read the negative reviews and before you let that doubt your decision, go and try the food. We didn't feel the restaurant was unsanitary at all. Doc was super friendly and took his time explaining all his menu to us, even though I could tell he was busy. He takes pride in what he cooks and it shows. Thanks again for the...
