Island Jerk — Restaurant in Roanoke

Where do I start; I was personally trying to reach him 1st b4 I post this, but no one is accepting my call. I see all these wonderful reviews.....and all I can say you definitely didn't get the Curry Goat entree that I got last evening. What he served me was not what he advertised for the Curry Goat. I should have opened the tray b4 I left. Anyways, there is no way any jamaicans are eating what he served me; I'm telling you they would blast him out of there. I'm used to authentic Curry Goat and what he gave wasn't that. 1st....it appears that he trying to stretch the goat by making it more like a bean stewed consistency; very pasty and dry. I ask for a large and my large had 2 compartments filled with rice and the beany goat stew poured over top like it was just gravy or something. This is not a large goat; a large goat is....... The large compartment you fill with the goat me, the chuncks!!!!! And it's gravy if you so choose, the other two compartments is where your two sides are place. And if your nice, you can spread some more chunks and gravy over on the rice;) That's how goat is done that I'm used too; not that dry pasty mess he gave me yesterday. So no I don't suggest this place, bcuz I think he getn over and taking advantage of ones that may not know what true jamaican goat is and taste like. What he advertised, is not what your getting as far as the curry goat; I can't speak for the other dishes. Frequent this place for curry goat at your own risk. And I'm one that don't post negatively, but this one.....this is blatant false advertisement......he need to be ashamed of himself. Hopefully he'll read this and do that Curry Goat the way he know its...

I just moved to Roanoke. I was craving some Caribbean food, saw the raving reviews and decided to give it a try. I ordered the oxtail plate. HUGE disappointment. It a giant plate of rice and beans, a small scoop of cabbage and four tiny oxtails with a little gravy. For $15? The oxtails had no flavor, except a weird sweetness (?) and were kinda tough. Apparently the plate doesn’t come with plantains like at most Caribbean restaurants, but I ordered an extra side because I usually like them. I eat here when I crave Jamaican bc its convenient but Im sick of the curry chicken being BLAND. it taste like I made it. I've had a lot of curry in my days and I don't think they taste their food. Like their curry sauce is weak and has no flavor, not even a 1% of spice to it and I don't even like spicy foods and I've ate here multiple times and each time, this is the case.
