Maguro Sushi House — Restaurant in Rochelle Park

I went here a lot when I first moved into the area, so when I recently moved back into the local area, I was not only happy to find them still open, but that their sushi is still just as wonderful! Being a purely takeout place, I tend towards rolls rather than cuts of fish, as I'd rather have the latter fresh rather than travel home with it. But the rolls are wonderful, from the basics (I'm a big fan of salmon skin) to their higher-end rolls with eel. My wife is very fond of their grilled salmon roll, although once it did come quite overcooked, when every other time it's been perfectly grilled and tender. Very very good sushi. Fresh. Clean tasting. As many have said, it's a takeout spot only but that is fine by me. We ordered a bunch of sashimi & a few of their special rolls. Salmon, tuna, yellowtail sashimi were all delicious. Chef special roll was awesome and HUGE. The tempura flakes on the outside gave it a great texture. Shrimp tempura roll (which we always get from any new sushi spot) was just OK and a bit overpriced at $6.95. I've had better shrimp tempura rolls at East Japanese. Overall, we'll certainly make this our go-to spot for takeout sushi while Sakura Bana in Ridgewood is still our go-to...

The WORST TUNA SASHIMI I've ever had. I ordered over $140 worth of sushi rolls and sashimi for special occasion. The tuna had weird taste and smell and I had to bring all tuna because the owner was keep saying there's nothing wrong with smelly fish. They ended up giving us salmon sashimi in exchange but they were constantly saying there's nothing wrong. This was my favorite sushi place and now this is the most disappointing place.
