When I first discovered Chipotle back in 2000 while living in Chicago, I was highly impressed with the restaurant. The food was prepped fresh daily and it seemed the staff were advocates for their brand., very friendly and passionate about their product.
A few years later when I moved back to Michigan, I was truly bummed out when I discovered that the burrito joint had yet to pop up in the state. It turns out that at the time, there were only a handful of restaurants scattered across the country.
Today of course they are all over the place. And after a recent visit to the Chipotle in Rochester Hills, it seemed to me that Chipotle is suffering from what happens to most businesses when they get to big. Lack of quality control and an employee base that doesn't believe in what they do or who they work for.
The staff didn't seem too interested in saying anything above and beyond the necessary words to get me through the line. The steak burrito I ordered didn't have a whole lot of steak on it and for whatever reason, just didn't taste like a Chipotle burrito should. It was also a bit difficult to find a clean table to sit at after to post-lunch rush, but I managed to find an acceptable one.
I want to love Chipotle today as much as I did back then. Before I never would have considered going to another burrito joint, but now when I'm in the mood for a big burrito, I'm happy to alternate between Moe's, Qdoba, Pancheros & Chipotle.
To sum up, you can probably put Chipotle in the same category as a McDonalds or Subway - it is what it is. Decent food at a decent price, but there's no longer an experience or culture that sets it apart from other...
Read moreThis was the first terrible review I've ever written, but well deserved. Having worked many years in customer experience and retail, I can only only describe the experience I had at. Chipotle tonight as "abysmal". While the food tasted fine and was quality, I didn't get a chance to order exactly what I wanted due to the rude, standoffish behavior, and the urgency of quickly dismissing my order as fast as possible. To start off, the female employee who was working the first part of the line acted very annoyed that I had a question about bowls vs. salads. I then tried to order two bowls, and the same woman and a man that were working the line kept moving each of the bowls, that I was trying to order items for, right through without waiting for me to finish what I wanted to add. They did this 4 times, and after the final time, I said "forget it, just package them up as is," paid for the bowls, and left. I've never felt so rushed and unwelcomed ordering food, anywhere. The two employees working the line acted as if each customer were such burdens, and were trying to rush through work because they closed at 10p.m. (it was 9:32p.m. when I walked in the door), moreover, there was one customer behind me! I didn't catch the name of the two employees. This is the closest location to my home, but I will never go back here. I recommend the location in Rochester Village, have never had any issues there.
Again, the food is good, but be very wary of...
Read moreThe WORST restaurant, particularly because of the non-existent customer service from the "employees" that work there. We went to ask a question about our online order and the minute we approached the counter, one of the employees acted as if we were dumb and couldn’t read the 10+ signs about ordering posted all over the store. The employee automatically assumed we were going to try to order inside and told us it was online ordering only. They didn’t give us a chance to ask what we may have even needed first, which was strike one. We told the employee that we had already placed an online order (over an hour ago), but they told us to check the shelf for our name. Eventually, we found out our order had ended up being taken from the shelf by another person, which was strike two. We had waited around for our missing order only to find out that they also couldn’t even remake it for us (ran out of some of the ingredients), which was strike 3. Strike 3 and we were done and out. We were given a general customer service number to call since the employees couldn’t even bother to help us in the store to refund the order. The employees are always rude every time we’ve gone, but this time was the very last strike. We took our business elsewhere and will NEVER be...
