Firstly, I would highly recommend the weekend only cinnamon roll. Probably the best cinnamon roll I've had. Just the right amount but without being too much.
I also got the duck bop hash and my girlfriend got the Reuben omelette. Both were very good, my preference goes to the duck bop hash though. The pickled vegetables give a great sour taste to break up the palette, while the duck is super moist and flavourful. The home potatoes were seasoned very well and were a solid mix of cuts, so you got a range of pure potato cubes and crispy bits.
The Dime Store is a fun interior with solid vibes going on. Open space that doesn't feel too cramped, and is a bit charming. Everyone working there seemed genuinely kind and friendly, and not the "friendly" that service workers often have to be. It was a nice positive feelings all around.
Lastly, the service was excellent! Whoever was at the table last left the top to the pepper unscrewed so I had a lot of pepper spill on my plate. Luckily I was able to save my food from most of it. The waitress seeing it though offered to have my dish remade. After telling her it's fine and not wanting to be a bother, she took my dish off the bill entirely! It goes to show how good service can enhance a meal and she earned the tip she got to compensate for her kindness!
Would highly recommend to anyone and will be coming...
Read moreI had high hopes for this place. They just need to train their staff better. I first called for takeout (twice) but not a single person answered the phone ( which is fine since I understand it could it be busy). So, I then ordered it online. When I walked in to pick up my items, no one acknowledged me. It wasn't busy. I even saw a girl (wearing a green top) making a drink, looking at me with annoyance, and didn't say any greeting or anything. I was waiting for a while by the hostess stand. I was waiting for anyone to come over so I could pick up my food, and no one came over. I then walked over to the bar and was able to finally have some level of greeting from some nice lady (wearing white sweater) who was able to grab my food. It doesn't seem like this place has any protocol for greetings or helping out the customers. It seems like most of the people working are in a bad mood. There is just very little hospitality, and it makes you feel unwanted when you come in. It isn't hard to just say to someone when they walk in "Hello, someone will be right with you"(with a smile on).
I really don't like leaving bad reviews. This place is about 5 minutes from me. I was excited to try a place near me.
The food was overall good but the...
Read moreWe were at DS yesterday for brunch along with our Canadian friends who were on their way back after the holidays. It was a busy Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was visibly crowded and busy. While our drinks order came immediately, the food took a bit longer. However, we were busy talking and catching up with our friends and hardly noticed the food delay. As we were finishing up, one of the Co-owners- Mitchell walked up to our table apologising for our long wait and to inform us that the food was on the house. He then gave us a meagre bill for just the drinks! Even though we tried to tell him that the delicious food was worth the wait and that we were happy to pay, he insisted that it should be on the house! Mitchell, as I’ve already expressed to you , the food at Dime store is unique and unlike at any other brunch house and we would keep coming back anyway, but we are really appreciative of your gesture of waiving off our bill over something so small. We wish you the best and see you again soon!! Also, our server was awesome, patient, pleasant and attentive. Also, the guy at the reception who seated us was very chatty and friendly. We troubled him for house favourite recommendations and he happily gave us a few...
