I am not sure what I got when we ordered for pickup but it was not what all these other images show.
I ordered the Miso ramen with pork and an extra marinated egg. To start, that was not pork or at least I think? It was small cubed chunks of overly cooked deep-fried of some sort of meaty (note: I ordered normal pork, not Katsu.) It seemed more like frozen bagged pork nugget pieces they just dumped in the frier instead of fresh slices of pork or pork belly which is supposed to be on authentic ramen. On top of that it was hard and dry from being overly fried that the meat on the inside was pretty much gone. What shows in other customer images and their website was not the meat I got. I can’t even find images of what I got. I wish I didn’t pay the extra $3 of meat for whatever it was. The the “marinated” egg was barely marinated. A good marinated egg is supposed to be dark in color. The outside of this egg was slightly colored and still tasted like a normal egg. This makes me think they do not marinate the eggs overnight or long enough to do the job it’s suppose to do.
Ramen usually also has bok choy and seaweed in it. This doesn’t. They don’t say it comes with it on the menu, so they did nothing wrong here, I just find it odd.
Then we also ordered the Yaki Udon. It was missing half the ingredients in the dish. It was missing the Mayo, the green scallons, Katsubushi, and the carrots. It was literally only udon, the pork (which also looked weird), onions, maybe cabbage, the spinach that was added, and they made it spicy like ordered. We did not subtract any ingredients so everything should have been in the dish. They didn’t miss the things we added to the dish so I give them credit it there I guess.
Then the gyoza….it’s deep fried. No where on the menu tells you it’s deep fried instead of the traditional steamed or pan-fried. It was also over cooked in the deep frier that it was extremely dry. If we knew it was deep fried we would have not ordered it or requested it to be pan-fried or streamed instead.
The photos from other customers that have posted on google seem really good and a LOT better then what we received. Was it because we got take out instead of eating in? Either way we are really disappointed. For a pretty pricy meal it was not very good with what we were promised. It’s really sad because Rochester needs better authentic Japanese foods and was hopeful since this place had good reviews. Either they are cheaping on ingredients since grand opening or since we don’t have a lot of authentic Japanese places in Rochester people really don’t know the true taste of really good authentic ramen.
I wish I took photos of the weird meat that was in my ramen but I didn’t. I thought maybe it was just low quality the restaurant just does but after more investigation on other photos, I was wrong and wish I took photos of everything....
Read moreListen, I've been excited to try this place for a while. I finally decided to just go do it today for lunch and I'm glad I did. Walking in, the place has ample seating and is clean! I didn't realize until I looked at the menu that they do offer sushi here as well.
I went with the chicken Ramen since I'm not a pork eater myself. Menu isn't huge, but has a little bit of everything for anyone. My server was a very pleasant woman who did a great job of making sure everything was correct. She had a really upbeat presence and it made the meal that much more enjoyable.
Ok, here's where I knocked a star off. It's more the food part then the drink part, but enough that I felt like I needed to say something. While the Ramen was good, the chicken was very chewy and it didn't really do much for me. It tasted a bit chewy and felt like it was a chicken nugget or something. Also, the broth was really really salty. With those two combined, I was like ok, what's going on here.
The food was good but maybe I thought I needed to try something else next time I come here. Plus, it's a small business and I want them to succeed, so I don't want to be to critical of them. Why? Because I like it here. seriously. Ok, off to the drinks. Now, I will say I'm a big water drinker, and that's what I stuck with today. I wasn't interested in pop or anything else. But, I did inquire just in case we had a beverage emergency. (You never know what could happen, okay? LOL) Anyway, they only sell canned pop and it seemed kind of pricey. I wish they had fountain pop as it would be a nice additive.
Overall place is clean, well run and my server was attentive and nice. I will be back in the future to try other (non...
Read moreThis place was amazing. The restaurant is super clean and well lit. The staff were very attentive and helpful with any questions I had. The food came out pretty quick and was amazing. I ordered the pork katsu with a side of beef curry, takoyaki...my hubby ordered the spicy peanut ramen with a side of fish katsu. We couldn't believe how delicious all of these were! The katsu was amazingly cooked; crispy and crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The pork was served with a honey mustard dip and tonkatsu sauce. It also came with a cup of rice and a cabbage salad with sesame dressing. The fish katsu was served with a homemade tarter sauce. The takoyaki was a serving of 4 pieces but was cooked to perfection. There was no skimping on the octopus piece inside of it. I was so inpatient to eat it that I almost burnt my mouth but it was so good! My husband's ramen had gyoza and ramen eggs in it . I wish I could have ordered it too! I've never had spicy peanut ramen and it was so delicious! He shared one gyoza with some soup with me and I wished I could have eaten more. I can't wait to come back and am...
