Good food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff...except...one thing. I took my son for lunch there today. We ordered the pretzel bites appetizer but what they brought was not pretzels. It was clearly small pieces of bread that were fried (or in a garlic butter perhaps) and dusted with Parmesan cheese. Ironically, they have another appetizer that is described as small pieces of bread in a garlic butter dusted with Parmesan cheese. I assumed they just brought us the wrong appetizer. The waitress insisted that they were pretzels, though they clearly were not. I know the difference between bread and pretzels. I was trying to have a nice lunch with my son so I decided not to push the issue too much. Whoever owns this restaurant needs to learn the difference between pretzels and bread. They are extremely different. Pretzel dough is boiled, salted, and then baked... sort of like Bagels. Also, while reading other reviews, I noticed that the owner generally only comments on good reviews, so I don't anticipate the pretzel mystery to ever be solved
Update: thank you, Jeff, for your response. However, do yourself a favor and Google "pretzel bites" then click on images. You will see hundreds of photographs of what a pretzel bite actually is. that is what I was expecting to be served so I'm sure you can imagine my confusion. So instead of a traditional pretzel bite, you are slicing pretzel sticks and frying them? That's fine but perhaps that should be explained in the description on the menu. And instead of the waitress arguing with me about it, why couldn't she just explain that it's not a traditional pretzel bite? She could have told me the same thing you did and the mystery would have been solved in about 1 minute. I even asked her to go ask one of the cooks because I was so confused. The cook could have explained it to her or come out and explain it to me himself. What you have on your menu as pretzel bites is not pretzel bites. I just want you to know that. What we got was a plateful of extremely greasy little pieces of pretzel sticks. I'm no chef, but the amount of grease in those little things means that your oil is not hot enough. You may want to check that out. Also, I would urge you to rename your pretzel bite appetizer because THEY ARE NOT...
Read moreI'm giving a medium rating on Avery's because I've had good and bad experiences. I've only been here 2 or 3 times. The first was very good. Had the California Croissant sandwich and house chips. A little messy to eat because of the avocado, but taste was good.
When we took our sons there a few weeks ago, we told them how great it was, and they'd love the hamburgers. My husband had been here quite a few times. Unfortunately, this was not a good day to go.
I got Nachos which were ok. Not the best I've ever had. What cheese there was was underneath the meat and a ton of lettuce.
My son's both got the Beer Cheese Burger which looked revolting to be honest. The manager told us that the beer cheese hadn't thickened like it should have. They should have come and told us that before serving it that way. The buns on both burgers where completely soaked in goo and inedible.
My husband got pizza since it was half off day. When it arrived, the pizza was partially burned on one side where there was no cheese on the pizza. Since he'd ordered pepperoni and extra cheese, not sure how 1/4 of the pizza got no cheese. The manager made him a replacement pizza herself.
The best part was dessert that the manager comped us. The Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet was to die for. I only planned on having a bite or two, but couldn't stop eating it. Unfortunately, we got a carrot cake to go for my husband without looking at it before we left. They poured caramel sauce over the whole thing. Carrot cake is incredibly sweet already and doesn't need caramel dumped on it, especially when the menu doesn't say it's made that way.
I'm sure this was just a really off night. We'll be back ... especially for the...
Read moreWent to Whiskey Rae's last night at the recommendation of friend because I am a whiskey drinker and they have a LARGE selection of whiskey. And they DO have a lot of whiskey's to sample. They didn't have my first 2 selections off the whiskey list (4-5 pages!) but I found one that I wanted and they had. We were there during "happy hour" but the whiskeys aren't included in the deal. :-( In fact, the whiskeys are truly way overpriced! Much more than I've paid almost anywhere. (It was MY bad but I got very surprised when the bill came. I "thought" I was ordering a $17 2-ounce pour of Oban 14. I read the whiskey list wrong. The 2-ounce Oban 14 was $33!!! I rechecked the whiskey list and I had missed it. I wouldn't have ever ordered it had I known it was $33.) We ordered a couple of appetizers as our dinner during the happy hour also. 25% off! But, alas, the 2 appetizers that we selected (tenderloin tips and wings) are NOT included in happy hour pricing. :-( We got them anyway and there were good. And the wings aren't drums or flats - you get 4 large ENTIRE wings from drum to the tip. I wasn't a huge fan of the rub they used but some may like it. The service was good (but we sat at the bar). The decor was so-so but we weren't really there for that. We did watch baseball, football on the screens above the bar and played Club Keno. We had a good time until I got the bill. Positives: Service, Food, Sports watching Negatives: Happy Hour disappointing, High Priced Whiskey We tried Whiskey Rae's and it was ok, but we...
