Fun, unique fusion (long overdue) with a limited but good menu that's worth at least one trip even with slightly higher pricing.
Longer review: Mochinut introduces a delightful fusion of mochi donuts and Korean hotdogs in Rochester, with visually appealing design choices. Even the drinks are served in delightful faux cans. The limited range of mochi donuts offers a chewy texture and unique flavors, complemented by the savory twist of Korean hotdogs, earning a two-thumbs-up from my niece.
While the drive-through is currently closed, convenient online ordering through DoorDash and UberEats is available. Even counter service is remarkably fast if in a hurry. I had an issue with my drink, but the nice manager was able to help find a solution quickly.
The owners have choose to link to the main franchise website (rather useless for real information in my opinion) rather then the local one is a wise choice as the Rochester centered website needs a serious update when they have time. An issue new, small business often have.
The building is a standard strip mall with two handicap parking spots right by the front door. The double door entrance might be a hassle if you have a stroller or mobility concerns, but nothing out of the ordinary for some Rochester buildings unfortunately.
Despite the overall cleanliness of the building, the bathrooms (otherwise usable) emitted an unpleasant odor, causing an instant headache.
It's essential to highlight that Mochinut's prices are comparatively high. Old Abe, also a limited menu artisanal donut shop, offers gluten-free/dairy-free/egg-free options at $2 each, in contrast to Mochinut's $4.50. Additionally, mochi donut shops in the Twin Cities sell a 6-pack for $16, while Mochinut prices it at $18. This places Mochinut at a premium, being twice the cost of similar stores in Rochester and slightly more expensive than establishments in larger cities. The bubble tea pricing is comparable to Kung Fu Tea or UniUni, but with a limited menu.
Overall, Mochinut provides a distinctive fusion experience in Rochester with a clean environment and an imaginative menu. Despite the relatively higher prices, the unique flavors, friendly staff, and fun experience mean I highly suggest at...
Read moreAwful all-around. First impression was that it was rundown...drive thru not in order, hours in the window updated with pieces of paper slapped over it, not the cleanest looking.
Went to order a soft serve ice cream after seeing it online and the worker let me know they didnt have any soft serve. Instead I ordered a coffee tea and a churro donut (the donuts available mostly didnt match the basic flavors offered online either). The donuts in the case all looked pretty and the worker was sweet.
I tried the coffee tea and it was terrible...it tastes like watered down gas station coffee that was overly sweetened. My husband had the churro donut and he actually spat it out (he's even less picky than me).
Oh - and when you go to pay it automatically pops up a screen to tip. You have to do a custom tip of zero to not leave a tip. I think that's a bit of a predatory practice to put in place on people older than I (to not have a simple skip option).
Everything ordered here went in the trash....
Read moreShocked by the mixed reviews - we just went here today mid day and we were met with smiles by the staff and no line! The place was very cute; I loved the bright and airy decor. The donuts looked so fresh and there was a huge variety.
I know some of the reviews on their corn dogs and bubble tea are mixed. I didn't try either. However, I will say that whenever I go to a place, I tend to get what it's most known for. Mochinut is known for their donuts, so I got a 12 pack of donuts to-go. There was no wait when I went.
We took them home and they tasted sooo delicious and fresh - on par with mochi donuts I've had in the Twin Cities. Absolutely loved them. My favorite flavors that I've tried so far are the Strawberry and Oreo - but you really can't go wrong.
Highly recommend and I'll definitely be getting more...
