Hickory Tavern — Restaurant in Rock Hill

Horrible experience both times we went. We were hoping it was because they just opened and decided to give them a second chance tonight. I will focus this rating on tonight's experience only. First problem is we were seated at a table that was still dirty with food all over the table then we had to get up from one side of the table so it could be cleaned but it wasn't even properly cleaned the only parts of the table that were cleaned was the big food crumbs leaving small crumbs all over the table because the whole table was not cleaned. Then we ordered our drinks and sat at the table at least 15 minutes before the server came to the table to take our food order. There were 3 people in my party we ordered the salmon with baked potato and side salad, a steak with side salad and chips cooked medium, and chicken cheese quesadilla. The server did not ever come to the table to check on us after our food was ordered before receiving our food, which the sweet tea was horrible. It was hot and not enough ice to cool it and way to much sugar in it. We had to ask for extra ice and unsweetened tea to cut the sweet tea. We did not receive our side salads before our main meal and had to ask for the salads when our food came out because the server forgot about them and the server blamed the salads not being brought out on the kitchen which is her responsibility not the kitchens. The quesadilla came with only enough lettuce for a small portion of it. The salmon is served on a piece of wood that appears reused several times that people eat off of that can't be properly cleaned and it didn't even taste like real salmon. The chips came out extra crispy when they were ordered medium. When asked to correct the chips they brought out some chips that were literally uncooked covered in grease. The manager did offer a piece of cheese cake in place of the chips. But even then we had to wait at least 15 minutes after our meal was finished for the bill. And there were also only 11 tables total in the restaurant at the time and the server walked past our table 6 times without checking on us but kept talking to people at another table that she appeared to know. Update: we decided to give HT on Celanese another try after taking a break and we were pleasantly surprised. Food was back on track and they made some improvements to the menu!! Thanks for fixing the issues. We plan to return again soon.

So we’ve been coming to this location for almost 3 years. The last year or so has been a miss almost every time. The food is just not good anymore and service in the bar and patio area is usually not so great either.

Atmosphere is pretty good, location is super convenient to home and we love our waitress in the regular seating are. Sweet girl and always smiling! I don’t remember her name but, she was working this afternoon.

We’ve continued to come back multiple times and give this location many chances but we aren’t going to be coming back for now. We can’t justify spending $90+ for 2 people on overcooked or undercooked food anymore. Our tots today were way overcooked. My shrimp was somewhat undercooked. My husband’s sandwich was overcooked and our ahi tuna appetizer wasn’t properly done either. The manager (I assume) did stop by and brought us some fresh tots that were better prepared but the continued issues really need to be completely addressed.

The last time we were there they brought the taco portion of fish and chips and had to bring out extra fish for the entree.

I am appalled by the treatment that I received today from the staff of Hickory Tavern. Particularly the bleach blond bartender (who neglected to give me her name) that was working this afternoon. She is either incredibly incompetent or a racist, neither of which is acceptable. Apon arriving, I inquired about my order and was told that it wasn't ready yet. I was then promptly dismissed as she proceeded to gripe to another customer within earshot of me that she was tired of "us" and needed a drink. I let that go and waited patiently for my food. She then ignored me completely with no updates or even a glance in my direction as she continued to flirt with the gentlemen beside me. Once my order was finally ready, she plopped it on the counter and walked away with out a single word to me. After checking my order and realizing that it was incomplete, I again tried to get her attention. When she finally looked at me, she told me that she was "busy". I insisted that I needed to speak with her regarding my order, at which point she turns and walks into the kitchen COMPLETELY ignoring me and my concerns! At that moment I could not believe that this was actually happening! I was able to catch the attention of a manager and explain the situation to her. She gave me my missing item and casually says she'll talk to the bartender, while winking at me. No apology from...
