I asked a friend of mine who is Thai where is the most authentic Thai restaurant in the Charlotte area? Without hesitation he said Sila Thai in Rock Hill, I immediately went to Yelp to check it out and saw the reviews which seemed to back up his claim. I took the family with me to Sila Thai and when we got there at night, there were no cars in the parking lot and the building didn't seem to meet my high hopes. I walked in and the place was completely empty, a young man walked up and asked carry out or dine in, I said well let me look at a menu first. I took the menu outside to the car where my family were waiting and we pondered over and over whether we wanted to take a chance or not, so I finally said let's do it.
We walk in and the decor is definitely of Thai theme but still not knowing what to expect we ordered appetizers to get started (calamari, spring rolls) and when they came out I wasn't impressed with the calamari because I do have high standards for such a delicious appetizer, the spring rolls were good as should be expected. I ordered the Pad Cha, my wife ordered the Basil Saute and the children had Green Curry with chicken. From the first bite to the last, I was thoroughly impressed and savoring every bite. The Pad Cha was very spicy just as I like and I honestly could've had another plate but the portion size was perfect. My wife loved her Basil Saute with chicken and the kids ate all of their dinner without a complaint.
When we finished eating we all looked at each other and laughed because we realized that looks on the outside can be deceiving and we are very happy that we took a chance on Sila Thai. After speaking with the waiter, he told me that they do a lot of to go orders, so that was one of the reasons that the restaurant isn't packed. So Yelp family, Sila Thai is definitely worth taking a chance on if you're looking for great Thai cuisine and we will be making frequent visits here. I am confident you will not be disappointed and if you are, I'll refund your money. J/K but...
Read moreSo, a while back, I wanted something different. I eat low carb/ keto, and that's just the beginning. Friends, I'm sensitive to Gluten and I have a low tolerance for Histamine foods/ ingredient. I have IBS often...too often to count and these conditions flare up to the moon and back, when I eat out. One day, I searched high and low for some authentic food. I really wasn't searching for Thai. I was wanted food that wasn't deep fried, or had a bunch of additives that would get my belly beating like those drums you see on Kemetic documentaries. I digressed 😅 so my search led me to this small, family restaurant. I didn't know what to expect but I soon realized the setting was intimate which I loved. I can't stand being around too many people. I read the ingredients and I quickly saw some dishes that worked well for me. I ordered the pad woon Sen and Thai iced coffee. Let me tell you, the ingredients are authentic Thai ingredients. I felt calm eating...I listened for my stomach to do the flip and all I heard was quiet. I continued eating and I took my time to enjoy the meal. Nothing was rushed. The herbs used hooked me, no joke. I think it was fennel or Thai herbs. The food was healing. It's not only delicious. It's how food should be cooked...with love ❤️. We told the son, that this restaurant will be on our Rock Hill Food stop on a biweekly basis and we kept our word. I hope this restaurant continues on this trend. People who know what food should taste like will...
Read moreTook my mom out for dinner to Sila Thai Restaurant tonight because she loves Pad See Ew(sorry if I spelled it wrong) and hasn't had it in years because there aren't any Thai places to eat at where we live. As soon as we walked inside the atmosphere was amazing, quiet, and calm. It was very relaxing. The prices weren't high at all, very reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get. The one waiter was super nice and did everything a good waiter should do. I waitress at a Japanese restaurant so I tend to sympathize with people who serve me whenever I go out to eat. I have no complaints about Sila Thai Restaurant, I would give it 10 stars if I could.
I recommend the pad Thai, pad see ew, and the spring rolls. The spring rolls were absolutely fresh and the best I've ever tasted in my entire life. I serve spring rolls at work and the ones at Sila Thai were the real deal, not the frozen ones we sell at my work. We will definitely be going back many times in the future! I love this place!!!
P.S. If anyone has ever worked in a restaurant before, then you know that walking in a minute before closing and expecting to sit down and eat for as long as you like is unacceptable and rude. Respect other people's time, when the door says that they close at 9:30 be there at 9 if you want food. Otherwise go to Wendy's or McDonalds that stay open into the early hours of the morning. The owners set times to close for a reason. Sorry for the rant!...
