ABSOLUTELY the most awful experience I've ever had at a happy Joe's. I rode my bike and took my 2 year old son to the park. I told him I would take him for ice cream and pizza. We walked in and were the only customers in the resturant. I saw a total of 4 employees staffed at the time. I sat there for ten minutes and looked up multiple times but no one acknowledged us. My son noticed a color mat and was asking for colors. I was extremely thirsty from riding in the heat. I finally asked a girl if she was gonna wait on us and she came out and asked me to repeat myself, when I did she said that I needed to go and order at the carry out window. Really with a screaming child I told her I would prefer that she took my order. She said can I go help the lady at the window first. Wow! I then ordered milk and water. Since I was on a bicycle I didnt want to waste food so I thought I'll get a little Joe. I asked for half pepperoni and half Canadian bacon kraut because my son doesnt like kraut. She actually told me no. I told her my situation and just make it any way. Then the another employee (I'm assuming the manager) she was sweating all over like she had been outside! again she told me that they will not make me a half and half little Joe it's against there rules. It even says in the menu any pizza can be ordered half and half and they charge it as the more expensive one. I was mad so I left and came to Harris and got a half and half pizza and was waited on immediately. Lots of people here. Now I know why no one was at Happy Joe's! On my way she told me not to be rude! I will never go back! Judging from some of the other comments letting $ walk out the door is no biggie here! Good luck! We will get a copy of this over to...
Read moreSo… I grew up on Happy Joe’s Pizza. As a kid I used to climb the stairs to the viewing window and watch the employees make the pies. Then I even worked for the company in my late teens and early twenties for 5 years. Loved that stuff. I eventually became one of the people that started early and made fresh dough every day. I never got tired of it! Fast forward to the 2010s-2020s and I became very disappointed with the quality of Happy Joe’s Pizza to the point that I wouldn’t buy it anymore. And yes it is expensive. The majority of the ingredients are the same as they were 30 years ago or more but the crust was like cardboard. Yuk! Every once in a while I think “what if they went back to freshly made dough every day? Then they could charge a lot because you know you are getting the quality again.” Well today I decided I was craving a Combo Pizza (formerly garden) from Happy Joe’s. I grabbed one on my way home at lunch. At the drive up window I asked the manager if they ever considered making dough from scratch again instead of frozen. She then told me something that blew my mind… they are making the dough from scratch again! Since restructuring things after recent world events (the disease that shall remain nameless) they started making dough daily again in Milan and it is shipped to Rock Island and a couple other stores. She said "it’s as close to the old recipe as they can get." On my drive home I scarfed down the pizza and was surprised to discover it was super good! I even ate the “pizza bones”! I looked down at the small pizza box… No survivors… So excited that Rock Island Happy Joe’s is back to kicking butt again! Next time:...
Read moreEvery year, every birthday our family takes our celebration to our neighborhood Happy Joe’s. Tonight it was my mother’s 78th birthday. So as usual all that could attend come, we order 6 large pizzas and a pretzel pizza. We brought our cake from the neighborhood bakery and picked up some single serving cups of ice cream from the freezer section at the local store. All is well until manager “Jas**” decides to make it a issue about the little single serving cups of ice cream... she choose to argue with us and tell us that we cannot bring them in the restaurant because they sale ice cream. No one is even in the restaurant except our family. Is she seriously that money hungry over a sale of possible $10.00? Is it a power trip? Does she realize we can take our parties elsewhere? Why would you do that to a elderly ladies birthday party? Why wouldn’t you say “Thank You” for choosing us for another year of...
