How does one accurately rate dickeys bbq? Let's first talk about the taste of the meat, the most important consideration with any bbq. It's good, but out of 10 random (non franchise) bbq stands that I, a truck driver would attempt a taste test with, dickeys would rate 6ish, but then that depends a lot on how you like your bbq, which for me, more smoke means more flavor, if it is juicy, tender, and heavily smoked, you will certainly get a good review from me. Dickeys is fairly juicy, fairly smokey, and a great competitor to any local competition, but there's probably someone in town who can do it better. 4 stars. Next, let's talk about value. $13 for two meats, two sides, with easily enough food for two people. We're talking anywhere from 1000 to 2000 calories here, but that's the problem, the meat portions are slightly generous for a single person, and the sides are very generous, so if you're coming to share with a friend, you better like their sides especially. Yet, there is not really a portion option for a single person, at a single price. No one wants to pay $13 on one meal for themselves, and closer to $16 if you want a drink. I mean come on, we could eat something decent at olive garden for that price, and that's a much classier atmosphere. 3 stars Lastly: atmosphere... it's cozy, there's a tv, you take care of your own trash, ol Towne styled lamp lighting, yet, the seating isn't the most comfortable. The chairs aren't really bad, with an inch of padding placed over wood. The booths are not as accommodating though, with no padding, and just basic wood benches. There's a couple historic photos, drop ceiling, and very basic tiled flooring. The free ice cream has a nice touch if you can afford the calories tho, and all in all, it's good, better than the average fast food resto. 3 stars
Conclusion, its good, just don't come alone, it isn't worth all that, and you might even do better finding out if there's something you'd like better for a better price somewhere in town. I'm not from here, just a trucker giving his point of view, but if there are 3 home style bbqs in town, one is sure to beat dickeys. If not, then it would be a fair place to take a...
Read moreI wasn't going to leave a review until Ellen asked for some feedback. I figure if I'm going to tell her, I might as well share. Stopped by for lunch on Monday. I ordered the three meat combo with pulled pork, spicy kielbasa and sliced brisket. They had a beautiful brisket sitting under a heat lamp so imagine my disappointment when my portion came out pre sliced from the warming tray. No biggie I thought, it probably hadn't sat there for too long I hoped. Mac and cheese and potato salad were my sides. After putting together my combo, the girl slid my plate down to the cashier who looked at the plate and walked away. I stood around for a good minute watching the cashier do menial busy work while my $20 meal became more cold. Finally she returns, rings me up and gives me my drink cup.
The quality of the meat overall was poor. The pulled pork was the best, it was warm and had a decent flavor without sauce. The pre-sliced brisket was like cold jerky. The crust was hard, dry and chewy while the meat was just leathery and tough. It tasted like it had been finished in the smoker but not smoked for hours. It had definitely been sitting around for a while. The kielbasa too was cold and the cheese bits had started to separate from the rest of the sausage. The Mac and cheese as well as the potato salad were the only items that were the correct temp. Potato salad was cold and the Mac and cheese was hot. Before I left, I got a drink refill and the two girls behind the counter just glared at me the whole time.
For the money, I can go to my local BBQ joint and get essentially the same meal but vastly better quality. Hot juicy flavorful meat is necessary when you're charging $20 a plate. If you're selling pre-sliced hours old bbq out of warming trays, then the price should reflect that. This was my second visit to Dickeys and it will probably...
Read moreI just spent $40 on a Family Pack at Dickey's going through the drive thru. Two meat selections were pork ribs and brisket. The ribs were very dry, not warm and the portion was small; yesterday's ribs or the dregs? The brisket portion was larger but more like a well done roast with bbq sauce. The sides were not right since I received 2 bbq beans and 1 green bean when I ordered 1 bbq and 2 green. The rolls were old and stale, very hard and not fresh by a long shot.
When I got home, I immediately called and asked to speak with a manager. It was the manager that answered and I told him that the sides were wrong and asked for some sort of credit. The manager told me that I could drive back over and get the right sides. This was before I even looked at the meat and ate dinner. The manager was not interested in my complaint.
Also, if you are driving I-80 and in a hurry or driving anything other than a small car, don't take the drive thru; it is narrow and tough to navigate in anything other than a small car.
Good food is hard to come by in Rock Springs and I have yet to find...
