Backyard Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Rockford Township

We have previously had great experiences coming here but we went a few days ago for my husbands birthday. It started with me having to chase a server down to ask for sweetner for my tea, ok, I know your busy, but its still frustrating. Three of my family members ordered onion rings of which no one ate them. My daughter said they were gross and they are usually her favorite. My son and husband arent ones to complain. My other son ordered a kids pizza which was just a pita with some cheese on top. We had to ask why there was no sauce, in which we were told he was supposed to get a cup of marinara on the side. I did not care for my chicken but that was just a preference so I wasn't even complaining about that. I gave some of my chicken to my son who wasn't happy about his "pizza". The things that really pushed me over the edge was I looked at my husbands plate, of which over 1/3 of his steak was a completely inedible chuck of fat. When the manager came by I mentioned that I was upset about the steak that we were paying nearly $30 for. He proceeded to ARGUE with me that a ribeye is the fattiest piece of steak. I understand that there is going to be fat on the meat but this was ridiculous! He did ask me what to do to make it right VERY RUDELY twice and l don't know what I am supposed to say? Make a new steak, take a few dollars off the bill, an APOLOGY any of that would have been fine but at this point I am more upset at his attitude towards me. He then said I'll give you a gift certificate for next time you come back. NO THANKS! NEVER AGAIN! WE WILL NOT BE COMING BACK HERE! I paid full price over $100 plus a tip for my family to eat here and went home and made a real meal....

My husband requested that I take him, our children and my in-laws here for Father’s Day. So we made a reservation. On the way he raved to his parents about how good the food is and how much they’ll love the cod. We were seated relatively fast though 15 minutes past our reservation time. We all ordered the fried cod platter. Then the children had kids meals. Then we proceeded to wait over a full hour for our food. When it was eventually brought out two cod platters were cold. One “4 piece cod platter” had 3 pieces. One kid’s meal was cold. We let the server know. She said she’d have it remade and took the cold meals away. Then quickly brought out the cod platters again in less than 5 min. I’m guessing they just refried the fish because it was hard, and saturated in grease. The entire bottom of my plate was covered in a thick layer of grease. We didn’t have time to ask for better because half the table was halfway done with their meal already. We had to ask 2 more times for the missing piece of fish. My husband had to ask 3 times for tartar sauce because instead of bringing enough for the table of people eating fish they’d bring one little half filled cup on a plate every time. I understand it was busy and we were patient in waiting the amount of time we did. The food and service were not acceptable and it was a disappointing Father’s Day dinner out. So we left with our in laws thanking us for a meal they didn’t enjoy and us feeling let down by a place we had previously had a good experiences. Went to eat at Backyard Bar & Grill (Loves Park ILL.) On Friday 11/24/2017. To say we were treated Rudely by the owner is nothing short of an understatement. 1st. We called ahead trying to make a reservation for a birthday party of 12 We were told they would not take a reservation for 12, BUT we could come in & take our chances. 2nd. We went & took our chances, ONLY to be told by the Owner, "We don't do large groups & will Not seat your group". (He remembered taking our phone call). We wpul lld have gladly sat as two groups of 6 HOWEVER that was never offered as an option. YES - We tried suggesting this, but were basically told to find somewhere else to eat.

This would have been my first time eating at this establishment and I can honestly say I will never go back. Over reacting? NO! As we were leaving he started seating a group of 8.

Apparently the 200 plus dollars we would have brought in with our group was Not wanted.

Very Disappointed FYI - We did go somewhere else and we were Gladly seated with open arms even though there establishment was also busy.
