Carmen's Italian Ice — Restaurant in Rockville

YESSSSSSSS for an amazing neighborhood business that is just doing GREAT THINGS! Since i moved back to this area a decade ago, Carmen’s went from their original location to expanding into several locations AND offers their products at the National Zoo!! The quality, however, has NOT CEASED.

First, what everyone wants to know about Carmen’s, the Italian ice and custards! They are SO GOOD! The menu changes often so there is a strong chance that you find a new favorite everytime. I love their smooth rich custards & just yesterday discovered their Jersey Shore Mocha - which is both dangerous and delicious!!! The ices are so awesome with some of our family’s standouts of mango, strawberry Matt, Rocket Pop, cotton candy, etc. Some favorite custard flavors: ube, Nutella, mudslide, marshmallow, etc.

What I love most is their sense of community. They employ a ton of our local high schoolers (current and alum). They support our local cluster. Every 8th of the month is Jayden Day where you can score some awesome specials as well as in the dead of winter too.

They no longer offer dine-in but you can take your dessert and hangout outside at the various outdoor tables or go across the street to the park.

First, if I could give them zero stars I would. Today , at 9:20 pm, I arrived here at Carmen’s Italian ice and put in an order for a loaded funnel cake with the ice cream with caramel drizzle on top. Well, I didn’t get it the way I wanted to. Not to mentioned I have my military ID for the discount he didn’t even give it to me even with proof. Once the order came. The girl just dropped the funnel cake and ice cream and stared in my face when I said thank you. I was obviously upset. They didn’t even loaded the funnel cake, and put caramel all over the funnel cake and not the custard vanilla ice cream I asked for. Then the guy laughed and said maybe next time you come I’ll make sure we get your order right I said you know what it’s fine, have a great night. Not only did I get mocked and laughed at but as I’m understanding about good business and good customer service is ensuring your customers get what they ask and paid for not “ next time you come and I’ll be here I’ll make sure your order is right “ …. I didn’t find anything funny nor did I approve of this item being served. Not a “ I can make it over for you “ but I did heard the girl sucked her teeth and one rolled her eyes at me. I really want to love this place but was hugely disappointed last weekend with the frozen custard. The pistachio had to be the worst rendition of that flavor imaginable. I should have known immediately that it was going to be artificially flavored when I was served a lime green cone of custard, but the taste and after-taste was really worse than I could have imagined (think melted plastic). I let my son also try a spoonful just to be sure I wasn't imaging things and he agreed with me. I threw away the custard which was on top and continued to enjoy the lemon ice which I had tried several times previously and which was really good. I've been to this location numerous times and usually play it safe with the vanilla or chocolate custard which are fine, but there was no excuse serving something that horrid. The atmosphere and service are always great, just beware of certain flavors. I believe a lot of ices are artificially flavored as well but that is kind of expected with some of the flavors offered. What makes matters worse, I recently returned from Europe where I had gelato almost everyday that was truly amazing. They would never serve something so...
