Amano's Pizza — Restaurant in Rocky Mount

When I moved from Upstate New York to Rocky Mount in 2007, I immediately went on a search for a pie that could compete with what I grew up with - and the Italian Pizzeria New York Style delivered. While working in the local hospitality business, over the years, I sent countless customers looking for a casual dinner there.

Since I moved in 2014, I have had to suffer (not really an exaggeration) with the occasional mediocre chain-store pizza in my life. Whenever I get to visit Rocky Mount (most recently last week), a stop by what is now Amano's is a "must do" and they still continue to provide the closest thing I've found to a New York pizza (if not better than I remember) in the area. This time, I picked up a White Pizza (with broccoli - try it!), Stromboli, and an Antipasto with their housemade oil/vinegar & ranch dressings and treated my local friends to a "New York dinner night." Not only did they devour it, but they've been running their mouths about it to their co-workers since. [I shamed them for taking the availability of their fantastic locally owned eateries for granted.]

P.S. - which really shouldn't be a post script: the service was phenomenal which isn't something one can usually fully experience or comment on when simply placing an order for take-out. Top notch visit all around...

We ate here frequently pre-pandemic & it was always delicious. Today, we ordered take-out for the first time & it was far from satisfactory. First off, I did not appreciate that none of the employees were wearing masks. I wish I had just walked out! We ordered a side salad without onion & got a smattering of shredded lettuce with 2 tiny slices of tomato. The rest of my dissatisfaction is due primarily to the Styrofoam containers everything was packed in. Primarily, I am against Styrofoam due to the impact on our environment. Secondly, it causes the food to sweat. Needless to say, our fries were cold & mushy. Our cheesesteaks were also cold. Cheesesteaks should ALWAYS be wrapped...it keeps them hot & it makes them hold together vs falling apart in the Styrofoam container. And now, i have a stack of Styrofoam to dispose of. Not sure if (due to no masks) or when we'll return here, but it's certain that we'll never purchase another order to go. This place could do...

Listen...first off DO NOT ORDER GRUB HUB if you want your food ...at all! The owner of this restaurant was AMAZING while I yelled after 9pm on a Tuesday night because my grub hub driver literally NEVER ARRIVED!!! the owner even called and told me when the driver got there to pick up my pizza to deliver, a full HR after I was supposed to get my pizza I received a text message saying, "this is your grub hub driver, I have arrived" bro...arrived where? Not here to this house with my already paid for food you haven't!!! Food ordered @ 8:10pm... 10:05pm...the owner arrives to do grub hubs job...WHAT AN AMAZING RESTAURANT. And the pizza was wonderful!!! Side note....my wife just came into my office with an ant covered pizza that was left on my front porch.... by delivery instructions clearly say come to driveway..best pizza ever....worst time with grub hub...
