china ling — Restaurant in Rogers Park Township

The first time I had China Ling it was awesome! I'd had a lot of bad experiences with local Chinese food places recently and was excited to try a new one. China Ling delivered!

However, last time we ordered (8/8/2020) we had some serious issues with our food...

Sweet and sour chicken and pot stickers were cooked so long they were extremely crunch. The sweet and sour sauce was devoid of any fruits/veggies.

Weirdly, the fried rice and orange chicken somehow had no flavor. I see people on the internet complain about flavorless food and usually I think they are full of it, but these dishes tasted like nothing. It was strange!

I really hope these issues were a one-off, but I can't say I will...

They hit me with the dirt-shrimp special tonight. That nice earthy base that everyone needs in their fried rice. Has me feeling woozy. Never have I eaten this many shrimp that taste as if they were scalped from beneath the sea's floor. I kept going on for longer than I should have in hopes there were just a few bad apples, but this was not smart in hindsight.

Usually this place has quality food, and rarely misses. They always get my order correct and call me if they are out of something. But man, their shrimp today was not acceptable. I will be checking to see if this becomes a regular thing.

This is the hole in the wall place with very good food. One of the problems here is the women taking orders, they are very rude. I wanted the walnut shrimp and she told me that it takes too long to make and I shouldn’t order that dish because she was so busy. Another time my friend asked her for two cups of water and the woman rolled her eyes and walked away then sent the other rude woman over to gives us the cups of water.
