Oh how the mighty continue to fall. This place is amazing on the food scale. Always has been. The burritos and the tortas hit in the most amazing fashion, throw in the fact that they also include charred onions and jalapenos to the order and everything is cooked fresh, not to mention the beautiful smiling faces that greet you when you come inside and you have in my opinion what would be a 10 out of 10.
But recently, new ownership has caused changes within El Rey. The soul of the store seems to have been scrubbed away, and things are more expensive for no apparent reason. I picked up a steak burrito and an al pastor burrito on the way home today. Not only were those two burritos basically $30 (27) but then I am told, and keep in mind I've been going here for quite some time, that there is now a charge to use your credit card. And that's never happened before. I understand how credit card charges work, but if you're going to charge $30 for two burritos I think you can eat a two-dollar charge. And it's not the money that's the issue because I paid it. It's the principle. Factor in the new interior not having any type of feel to it compared to how it used to feel, and the lady saying "I'm sorry" over and over again about the charge, to which I responded it's not her fault, you've got to do what you got to do, left me a bit cold. I hope they turn back to inspiration for El Rey. And I hope the new owners are paying attention to people that no longer eat there, or to people who are upset that they are now being charged to have to pay for something. I will never think that's right. The food is still a 10 out of 10. But bring cash. Or...

Then I look at my bill I see something wrong . I asked the waitress can you give me a list of the items I purchased first thing she told me is that we don’t do that here I told her that I came here before and you have. Before she gives me the bill she told me that I am being charge half of what I broken I was shocked Then I look at my bill and I’m being over charged for stuff I didn’t order including the glass that broke . I asked for the waitress to send her owner and she comes over to tell me I’m being charged for the glass that broke and in her words “even Olive Garden charges if you break anything “ in the end they gave me $10 back and Didn’t offer any compensation for the situation instead I was being...
Read moreI went with four colleagues after work to celebrate two birthdays. All was fine until it was time to pay the bill.
Earlier when ordering, our main server told us that we could pay the single bill with our individual credit cards. However, when we tried to pay the bill, the manager or host said we could not do that. Our bill was over $250, and there were few diners in the restaurant. We all knew how much we owed, so the transaction could have been processed quickly. But the woman at the counter just refused.
She also had a very difficult time giving us 4 containers for the left-over cake. I would say that she was very inhospitable.
Finally, one of us put the total bill on a card, and we venomed her. After all the fuss, the restaurant charged us another $10 for using the card! For $10, it seems like we could have used all our cards.
The food was good enough, and we had a good time, but the woman’s lack of hospitality soured the experience. I would have a very difficult time going back there, when there are a plethora of restaurants on the...
