There is free parking but it's tight. On the day I visited there was a basketball game going on in the gym, a meeting of some kind in the kids room and a very large party in some room (for rent perhaps). I went for fitness week, gladly because I would never pay to use the center!
The locker room was scary! There was old equipment like TVs and such jammed in the showers. A locker with a "keep out" sign on it and an aquarium outside of one wall of lockers. Nothing was in the aquarium but sand and dirt. The lockers were all rusted out too. I quickly changed shoes as I listed to a lady in the next row over cough up a lung.
I just wanted to use the treadmill to run. The treadmill was older but nice, it even had two fans built in. There are two treadmills, each facing the window which is covered with that metal "netting." Imagine running for 35 minutes and having to look at that. It was making me dizzy!
The floor was dirty, the free weights were rusty and the machines were ancient. All in all it was nasty, skeezy and probably...
Read moreThis park is a hidden gem if you have a dog. To the north of the baseball fields, tucked behind a fence, there's a surprisingly spacious dog park. There are two entrances to the park. There's a gate that can be closed to separate the area in case you have smaller dogs (you'll get about 1/4 of the area). It's pretty standard for a Chicago Park District park - mostly cement, a water fountain, a few benches you can sit on and gravel for dogs to do their business. However, in the few times I've gone, there's never been an overwhelming number of dogs. It seems like a pretty clean area and it does get a little bit of light from the park at night.
One caveat though - I HAVE seen aggressive dogs brought to this park before by careless owners and dogs getting attacked. Obviously, this is a public park and you have to be wary but I can't hold that against the...
Read moreThis is an exciting indoor and outdoor facility of the Chicago Park District. First I feel it is important to note that both early and election day voting occurs here. The indoor facilities offer classrooms meeting space and a gymnasium for a variety of educational recreational and healthy activates and organized programs. There are several seasonal items to sign for inside. The outdoor fields host several CPS High School baseball softball soccer among other organized competitive sporting events. There are lights which allow for both day and evening contests to occur. The fields are also available for other community organization events and competitions. The fields are well kept with a solid police...
