NO WAY! take a look at the online menu before you go. The prices are the highest of any Mexican restaurant that I've ever been to. That did not deter me because I assumed the quality of the meal would justify the cost. I was wrong.
I don't even know the name of the platter I got but it had beef steak medallions wrapped in bacon and shrimp wrapped in bacon. The shrimp was delicious, but the steak medallions were waaaay overcooked for medium well. Hell, they were way overcooked for well done. There was absolutely no moisture whatsoever in the steak. In all fairness, the waitress said that the manager thought they were overcooked and she would bring us more if we wanted. Well I tried it and could not do it because it had a burnt taste to it so the waitress then proceeded to go to the kitchen and order two more which arrived about 20-25 minutes later after we had completed the entire meal. Other than the shrimp, everything I ate was just mediocre. I tried the queso with green chilies and it was just okay. I had two margaritas and they were great but exceptionally overpriced at $11 and $13 (the Hefe was my favorite but it was also the more expensive of the two). My girlfriend did not drink any alcohol and we shared the dinner platter which was $27.29 by itself. With the queso and the two margaritas, our bill totaled $73 with tax. I was very generous and left a $15 tip despite having a server that seemed like she did not want to be there and never once made me feel welcome as a patron.
I can definitely say this was my first and will most certainly be my last dining experience at abuelo's. The patrons next to me complain to the manager because their chicken was delivered raw, and the manager took the food off of their tab. I probably could have gotten my food comp as well, but I'm not that kind of guy. I just wanted to pay and get and stay away from that place. At least do yourself a favor and check out the menu prices before you go.
today for lunch she had Chipotle for the first time, and she said it was delicious, and we both preferred it to Abuelo's and we got out of there for less than half the money. don't assume you're getting the highest quality Mexican food when you eat here. I would rather have gone to Taco Bell and pocketed $75, and that's sad.
Stay far, far away. Even if I was offered a free meal I would not go...
Read moreWe went to Abuelo’s to celebrate my wife’s birthday recently, because it’s her favorite place in town. They’ve got great food (especially their burritos), and she’d been looking forward to this dinner since we hadn’t been in a while. We went relatively early in the evening, so it was far from what I’d consider “busy”. However, after going inside, we were there for about 5 minutes before a host(ess) ever made an appearance. I would understand the delay if they were busy seating other guests, but there were barely any other guests from what I could see. The hostess was very friendly and kind when she did return to seat us. I wish I could say the same about the wait staff. In the first few minutes after being seated, we were introduced by 3 separate waiters/waitresses all telling us they would be our servers, each admitting there was some confusion. This wasn’t a big deal until the 3rd and final waitress, who made it clear to us throughout our meal that she would rather be anywhere else than our table. That’s not to say she didn’t make many appearances; she just had an open look of disdain every time she did appear. Perhaps she was unhappy they gave our table to her? I don’t know. But we are a polite bunch who are easy to please, and we never made any outrageous demands (ketchup for my toddler’s fries, and queso on the side of one of the burritos), so I have no clue why she made it a point to take out her frustration on us. I’ve never been to a restaurant where I felt like I personally had annoyed the waitress just by being a patron there.
But she insisted on making us feel that way, by being short/ with her responses to anything we said, and storming off after every interaction.
It was a shame my wife had to deal with such a rude person on what was supposed to be a fun night for her at one of her favorite places in town. This certainly affected our perception of the service here. I’m still giving the place 3 stars because the food was fantastic; I just can’t stand bad...
Read moreThis was our second visit to this location after going here much earlier in the year. We used to visit the Abuelo's in Fort Worth all the time. While the food has been good, the prices have gone up significantly up over the past few years where the prices for many entrees are in the $20-25 range.
More importantly, we've had very long wait times for food each time. On our first visit, I think we waited nearly 40 minutes to get our food after placing the order. At that point, the server and manager approached us and had offered the food for free because it had taken so long. Ok, sometimes there are flukes in service, and it appeared that the restaurant management knew this wasn't good.
As I said, this was our second visit to this location today. This time, it took our food about 35 minutes to come out after we had ordered it, so the trend of extreme lateness continued. Our server was pretty good about refilling our drinks, but she never removed any empty dishes from the table, so they just cluttered up the table (i.e., no pre-bussing).
This is about a 40 minute drive to get out that way, and we were mostly going because of the positive experiences of visiting the chain back in Texas. This is just too far of a drive to have food take twice as long as it should to come out to the table, so we won't be...
