Lucky House Rolla Restaurant — Restaurant in Rolla

Before going to Lucky House, I checked online reviews on Google and Yelp. This restaurant had higher ratings than the other Chinese restaurant in Rolla, so I chose it.

I travel in business 4-5 days per week and, after having done this for the past 7 years, I have grown a distaste for restaurant food in general. I have eaten Chinese food across the country and I must say that the Shrimp Fried Rice I had today (5/20/19) at Luck House was undoubtedly the worst I have ever eaten.

The large order came in a 3-compartment styrofoam container. When I got to my hotel, I opened the container to see, what looked like, mildly seasoned white rice that had maybe 1/4 cup of scrambled eggs (no veggies, onions or bamboo shoots) so I decided to count the number of shrimp in this $8 entree- 7 was the answer. The rice was under-cooked (imagine cooking rice for 1/3-1/2 the time necessary).

I’m sure many Rolla locals will disagree with my review but I can only base my opinions on (1) how this meal tasted vs other like meals I have eaten and (2) my expectations, based on online reviews. I hope my experience wasn’t indicative of the average food from the Lucky House because frankly, I don’t know how they could remain in business if all of their food is this bad. Don't even bother. I've never gotten great food here, but I keep giving them a chance. Today was the worst and my final try. I ordered Cashew Chicken...imagine some chopped up dryed out chicken tenders from Walmart deli, smothered in watered down brown gravy with a few cashews tossed on top...it seemed exactly like that. I also got a spring roll....tiny tiny tiny spring roll, but somehow also mushy inside. If you are a person who has had excellent quality, in any food, you will not enjoy eating here. If you can't tell the difference, you might be fine. The best Chinese Restaurant in the area is China King in St James, and in my opinion, worth the drive. I will usually go to Mandarin Garden in Rolla, which I give a solid 7 out of 10, but China King 10 out of 10. You can taste the fresh...perfection. Lucky House, sorry, 3.5 or 4 out of 10 on a good day and today was not. Best Chinese food in town at a very reasonable price. I've been eating here for over 8 years now, I've never had a bad experience. The sweet and sour chicken is my favorite dish, but I will say that I like to get the sauce on the side because sometimes it overwhelms the crispyness and flavor of the chicken; still delicious to dip it in though. The rice is really good, you won't find better rice unless you go to a big chain restaurant. Delivery drivers are very nice, and when you eat in store it's very clean and the staff is very personable. They changed their carryout dishware from styrofoam to a plastic tupperware-type container as well, and I couldn't be happier about that; better for the environment and reusable!
