If you are from Rolla, MO, you know Maid-Rite. Everyone eats here, and everyone loves it. These are loose meat sandwiches. They are not your typical hamburger, but who cares because they taste so good! Don't stray from the normal when you eat here. You need a maid-rite or a cheese-rite. It comes with mustard, pickles and onions, so if you want Ketchup, you'll have to tell them to add it. Also, these are not the biggest sandwiches, so if you're hungry, you might want two. Now for your sides, some people love their fries, while for me, they are just okay. I do however love their fried mushrooms, and always make it a point to get those. Also, they have the BEST fried chicken in Rolla, so you can venture out and order a fried Chicken dinner. It comes with fries and coleslaw, and yes their coleslaw is a little soupy, but it's yummy too. The chicken is greasy, but it was fried in oil, so it's going to be greasy. This is diner food people. Now the real winner here is their ice cream. I am a fan of their concretes, but I know several who like their milkshakes, sundaes and banana splits. Now a concrete (think a blizzard from Dairy Queen, but better) is thick, and packed with the candy or fruit or whatever you want in it. They will do combos as well. I, myself, am a fan of their Reese's concrete. And there is no way you will need extra stuff in your concrete, just trust me.
Don't come here expecting gourmet, because you are far from it. It's a loose meat sandwich, or crumbly burger, however you want to say it. It's a staple in Rolla, and those who move away, make it a point to come visit when they are in town. Ask around,...

Wanted to try something different from a burger joint. Read the Maid-Rite website that talks about healthy options and how the butcher found a secret. Lend of meat and spices...
This store only offers a portion of the online menu. The greasy, fried portion. Cole slaw and FRIED pickles are the only veggies.
Had the classic maid-rite sandwich. It was unseasoned and flavorless. Another reviewer called it "sawdust.". I think he was insulting sawdust. I think they chose the least flavored part of the cows and froze the meat for an extended period of time to suck all taste from it. Then steamed it, drained it, and wiped it with cheesecloth to extract any lasted taste it had. And put it in a plain white bun.
Fried pickles shined and looked wet with grease.
My son's hot dog looked like the worst example of a boiled hot dog to ever exist. A gas station roller hotdog would be gourmet compared with this. Also, on a plain white tasteless bun.
Bad choice. Hope the Maid-Rite company comes and sees this place and realizes it is not what they intended. Or if they did, shame on them too.

Read moreMaid Rite? It should be "Maid Wrong". I ordered the Chili-Cheese Maid-Rite and the chili-cheese fries. First off, I don't know what was on my sandwich, but that definitely was not chili. Rather, it was some sort of red sauce poured over the open-face sandwich. The chili-cheese fries consisted of a piece sliced cheese placed over the fries and something resembling chili.
Not being from the area, I visited the restaurant while passing through based on the Maid Rite website. The website is a professionally created website and shows several locations that left me an impression of a well-established, clean, modern restaurant. I was wrong.
The counter was cluttered, and the dining room was filthy - apparently from a previous rush. But, no one made any attempt to clean it 2 hours before closing. The kitchen looked like a time-warp to the 70's.
The service was reasonably good, but the food (which looks NOTHING like the website) and restaurant was definitely not what I expected. I will not eat there again, nor would I recommend it to...
