I bought a bicycle from Academy less than three years ago. While shipping it back from Japan, a couple of things broke. The back brake was off and the chain wasn’t shifting properly on the rear sprocket. Academy Sports in Rolla is the closet one to me. I took the bike there two weeks ago and explained to customer service what happened. She explained to me that they do not have a dedicated bicycle repair shop but someone comes in once a week to repair bicycles. She took my information and said that they would call me when the bicycle was done. After two weeks of not hearing anything, my husband called to check on the status. He waited on hold for 30 minutes while the store tried to find someone about the bike. Someone finally picked up the phone and told him that the bike was out of warranty and they can not repair it. My husband asked if the bike was still there and the employee told him that he was not sure. He would have to call him back. After not getting a return call my husband called again. Again he sat on hold for 10 minutes. Another employee told my husband that he heard the conversation about the bike and he wold check on it. He told my husband that the bike was repaired and ready for pick up. I picked the bike up Monday of this week. The back brake was working so I assumed they fixed it. Once I got the bike back home I noticed the chain was off. The brake line from the rear brake to the handle bars was disconnected and the chain wouldn’t shift. Academy did nothing to fix the bike. I am very disappointed with the way the staff handled this and how I...
Read moreThe store in general is easy to find and has a large facility. I was able to find almost everything I needed. If they had a bigger camping area, I would’ve bought even more. I can’t say much of the staff because I didn’t see anyone other than the cashier but luckily I didn’t need any help. I think it was very well organized and prices were clearly marked (a big deal for me). I buy everything online. Like, EVERYTHING. And everything I buy online, I buy from that one place, I’ll give you a hint, starts with an A. Most of the time when I’m in a store, I’ll compare prices and most of the time, my online source is cheaper. Today I was shocked at the number of things that were cheaper here at Academy. Lighters, flashlights, coolers, chairs, tents. Seemed like everything on my camping list was cheaper here. Not always a huge difference in price. For some items it was only a difference of about a dollar or two but every little bit counts. Bravo Academy for not price gouging because I walked out of here spending over $300 today instead of spending it online at that one place. Keep up the low prices and I’ll keep...
Read moreInteresting experience. There seem to be plenty of employees, but none willing to actually help you. When I finally went to the checkout, I had to walk through a rat's maze (one of the workers who didn't want to offer assistance referred to it as the "que line" which I found odd as I was the only person in the store". When finally "called over" the young lady simply kept saying "card" over and over. So I announced "American Express" with hopes that would satisfy her. I had a pair of shorts from a rack where they were all marked $40. I apparently had the only pair (of the exact same shorts) that were $60.00. No thank you. Poor customer service and I can wait on Amazon to bring me the pair of shorts for 30.00. It is like the twilight zone there. This is why retail stores are a thing...
