My daughter and I ate breakfast with my sister in law Thursday (10/15/20) morning at the Armuchee Waffle House. Everything went okay until a roach crawled out from under my waffle, while I was cutting it. It almost fell in my lap! While I understand it isn't the waitress' fault, I still felt I should bring it to her attention. I did so, very nicely and discreetly. I let her know we found a "chocolate chip" running around the table and it was currently trapped under the syrup bottle. She understood my meaning and quickly said she was sorry, then whisked away to do something else. At some point while she was away the roach escaped the syrup bottle trap and had to be squished (with said syrup bottle). At this point my 6 year old realized what was going on and exclaimed (louder than necessary) about a cockroach. The waitress came back and picked up the syrup bottle, snatched a napkin from our dispenser, wiped the bug off and placed it on the shelf, telling us "There, now the chocolate chip is taken care of!". My daughter is 6 and in an argumentative phase. She knows good and well it wasn't a chocolate chip and stated it again, louder than was necessary, but she's 6 and hasn't had any encounters with roaches. I immediately told her to quieten down, we were leaving, it wasn't the waitress' fault, and that it would be taken care of. My daughter saw another roach on the fire extinguisher and said it loudly. The waitress leaned into our table area and talked right over my directions to my daughter, telling her to "Let's keep it quiet!", and "Be quiet!".
My complaint is not solely due to the bugs we saw in the restaurant. My complaint has more to do with the way the issue was handled. I've been in general management for many years. I've worked in food service management most of those years!
I recommend Waffle House look into better pest control and more training for staff members on how to handle a customer complaint. I personally have always followed the LAST acronym handling customer complaints (Listen, Apologize, State what you can do to fix the situation, & Thank them for bringing it to your attention). Guests bringing issues to employees/employers attention gives the opportunity to fix problems before they grow/get worse. Word of mouth is very powerful! It also helps your business, showing your sincerity in providing quality products (food in this instance).
I even more highly recommend someone let the staff know to NEVER assume they have authority over any of their guests children. Restaurant staff has ZERO authority over any visiting children. It is extremely important for staff safety to not give instructions to children, but instead to the parents. The parents, or the adults with the children have a responsibility for those children. Parents have authority to enforce limits and consequences, etc. Nothing gets guests/customers more angry quicker than an employee addressing their children like they have authority over them! The fact this waitress SPOKE OVER my quiet directives to MY CHILD, quite frankly, had my blood boiling! I will not be coming back, but for future guests' sake, I hope this is addressed with...
Read moreFast friendly service! Good food at a reasonable price. Several complaints are. 1. The tables are way to small for a family of 3 or 4 with food and drinks. We bought the all american with the waffles. We had no room for the waffles. A suggestion would be to bring the food in stages rather than all at once. The waffle was cold by the tine I was able to eat it. Not because it came cold as it did not. It was a matter of finishing everything else.before estimates g the waffle. We had to stack plates of food because everything was brought at one time. Possibly bring the waffles early or later. Just a suggestion. Possibly remove the condiment stations and bring the items customers need with the meal. I noticed the condi.ent stations were rather large.for the size of the table given the lack of space available.o. the table with meals. I'm rather large and my 13.yr old grandson is a little large as well. We barely fit in the booths and they aren't moveable. 2. We were in an end booth and looking directly ahead out the window I couldn't help but notice the build up of dust on the blinds. It was clearly noticable and very close to the the table.l and our heads etc..Not very appetizing trying to eat a meal with that so close. We aren't talking about a little dust either. Possibly never been cleaned type dust. It makes you wonder what other cleanliness issues they may have where customers can't see. Although walking in the store looked clean enough at a...
