Ats-a-Nice Pizza in Romeoville: A Heartbreaking Decline After 30+ Years of Loyalty
We’ve been loyal patrons of Ats-a-Nice Pizza for over 30 years, but after our visit on January 4, 2025, it’s safe to say that we will not be returning. This once-beloved establishment has taken a sharp turn under new management, and sadly, the quality, service, and overall experience have declined so drastically that it no longer resembles the restaurant we cherished for decades.
Our group of four included two elderly individuals, both of whom had fond memories of dining here. Unfortunately, those memories were tarnished last night. The food quality has plummeted: pizzas were sparsely topped, sauces were noticeably skimpy, and the signature Paulie’s original thin crust—always a highlight—was undercooked. The BBQ chicken pizza was particularly disappointing; the chicken tasted rubbery, as though it had been sitting out far too long, leaving us feeling unwell after eating it.
To make matters worse, when we went to settle the substantial bill, one of my companions attempted to use a Restaurant . com discount coupon—a program this restaurant has participated in for years. Instead of honoring it or politely informing us of a policy change, the waiter returned with a message from the manager, accusing my companion of being a “scammer.” This baseless accusation was not only insulting but deeply upsetting, especially given the circumstances.
When we asked to speak with the manager to clarify, they refused to come out of the back, leaving the waiter—who was visibly uncomfortable—to handle the fallout. This behavior felt cowardly and disrespectful, especially toward customers who have supported the establishment for decades.
If the new management has decided to discontinue participation in community programs like Restaurant . com, they owe it to their patrons to communicate that clearly and respectfully, rather than resorting to accusations and hiding from accountability. Furthermore, the current state of the food does a disservice to the legacy of Paulie and the original spirit of Ats-a-Nice Pizza.
We left feeling disappointed, disrespected, and heartbroken. Losing customers who have stood by your restaurant for over three decades is not a sustainable way to run a business. Until this management demonstrates respect for its patrons and a commitment to restoring the quality and service that once made this place special, we’ll be taking our...
Read moreI was very disappointed with the service I received this evening. I took my 2 grandchildren for pizza. At first the waitress was attentive taking our drink order and returning for out food order. Once we received our food we may as well have been invisible. Twice I had to get the attention of our waitress in order to get parmesan cheese and another drink for my granddaughter. There were two other tables with a party of five and two other tables with 2 people each. I realize she had to take care of the other customers but while she stopped by the other tables to ask how things were or if they needed anything, except for when I called her, she never came to our table. Something even my grandchildren, who are 7 and 8, noticed and commented on. We waited one last time to see if the kids could get go cups for their drinks. The waitress never came by. One final thing that I found annoying was that the person I assume was the owner stopped by several tables to talk to the patrons. These were people I can only assume he knew. However, a nod of acknowledgement and "how was your meal", would have gone a long way in making this a more enjoyable experience. I may not be a regular, but I do order for delivery from time to time and have even recommended the restaurant to others. At...
Read moreWe just moved to the area. We love a good pie, and we're looking forward to trying all that the area has to offer. This place is the closest to home, so it was our first stop.
Reading through some reviews, it seems as though some people have taken issue with this restaurant in recent times, but I like to form my own opinions and in this case, I'm glad I did.
Our waiter seated us right away. He was polite and attentive, and took good care of us. He brought our appetizers quickly, and refilled our drinks without us having to ask.
As for the food, we had fried pickles and garlic bread for the sides. The pickles were crisp and tasty. The bread was decent, I should've asked for some marinara to go with but I didn't think about it. And for the pie, we have a stuffed pepperoni. He warned us that it would take 45 minutes to cook, but we know how it goes so it was fine! It was worth the wait, extremely tasty! A little greasy, but you have to expect that with pepperoni!
All in all, we had good service and good food! For what we ordered, it was well priced. We will...
