I'm a regular here and I'm within walking distance to this place so it's very convenient. I loved coming here and always had a good experience until this past Saturday put a bad taste in my mouth.
It was snowing out so my wife decided to walk over and have dinner and a few drinks, at around 7:30. After we ordered our food, our waitress started talking to us about how their was a ufc fight tonight and they start charging $10 covers at around 10pm. I figured no problem. Her comment wasn't directed to us, it was just small talk. I had no interest in this fight, and our table was a small 2 seater in the corner with my back turned to the tv.
After we eat and have a few drinks, my wife and I are having a great time together and the time approaches 10pm. Actually, we were enjoying ourselves so much because there was no DJ tonight to blast your eardrums out (why do you try to be like a club?) and we could actually have a conversation. The waitress comes over and actually tells us that of we plan on staying, we'd have to pay the $10 dollar cover charge per person. I couldn't believe the words that came out of her mouth. First, you could clearly see we had no interest in the event. Second, we were existing paying customers enjoying ourselves and you essentially come over to kick us out. I understand bars like to charge for fights and people try to take advantage by coming in early. But it was so obvious we weren't one of those people. So I said fine we are done here and left.
This is really dumb on your part. I would have easily stayed another hour or so and bought at least 4 more drinks between my wife and I. But you decide that losing out on drink money and disgruntling a regular customer is better? I would have been out way earlier than the fights main event at 12am too. And, it wasn't even crowded!! There were tons of empty tables.
Unbelievable. Know your clientele. This really rubbed me the wrong way. It's a darn shame because I love...

As much as we love the classic dishes from tacos and tamales to enchiladas and agua fresca, there is so much more to discover.
Tucked away in a strip mall on Raritan Road in Roselle and formerly known as Villa Tequila Bar, a few of my colleagues decided on lunch at Johnny Tequila’s.
Upon entering, for some of us as first-timers to this two-level restaurant that could seat about 100, we were greeted by the staff inside a lively, modern vibe with music pumping throughout that patrons have always flocked to. We sat on a high table by the window surrounded by the caricatures of famous deceased artists such as Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, and Tupac, to name a few.
Their menu features nuevo Latino cuisine with roots in Central and South America, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, with vegan options.
For starters, we decided to share the Guacamole with Fresh House Made Tortilla Chips. As the main meal, we opted for the Shrimp Burrito, Chicharrones De Pollo, and Tostones De Ropa Vieja. We washed them down with Strawberry Margarita, Coco Loco, and Red Sangria.
The meal was tastefully delicious, made from the freshest and most flavorful ingredients. The portion was a healthy size. The price was reasonable. The service was friendly and attentive; our server was Jennifer.
From start to finish, we had a wonderful time, which ended with a complimentary shot of guava, which we...

I don’t even know where to begin , this place blew me away. I’ve been a fan of authentic Mexican food for a long time, and Johnny Tequila’s easily ranks among the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is lively and inviting, with great music playing in the background, a full bar, comfortable seating, and an energy that makes you want to stay awhile.
What really stood out to me was how unique they are, not your typical sit-down Mexican restaurant that automatically serves chips and salsa. They have their own style, and that’s exactly what sets them apart.
I ordered the Birria Tacos (three per order, served with rice, beans, and a side salad), and let me tell you , these were hands down some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. Perfectly crispy, packed with flavor, and top off with overflowing beef.
I’ve only eaten Mexican food in New Jersey twice, including this stop, and that other place couldn’t even compare to here, and as someone from Florida just passing through, I didn’t expect to stumble across such a hidden gem.
Special shoutout to Daniella, who was incredibly sweet and went above and beyond with her service. She was warm, welcoming, and made the whole experience even better.
I’m so glad I made the last-second decision to stop in and celebrate National Taco Day here ,it couldn’t have been a better choice. I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in town.
5/5, highly recommend.
