It was several years ago, when my wife and I decided to start checking out restaurants in our new city we're calling home. We immediately noticed that there really wasn't much to choose from in Rosemount, but we still had to give each place a shot.
In search of a place that serves breakfast, we came across Suzie's Kitchen and most of the locals we had talked to said it's the very best. Very best!? I guess we'll just have to see... My wife ordered an omelet with all of the fillings she enjoys in her omelets (veggies, meat and cheese) while I went for a Huevos Rancheros (appears to no longer be on the menu).
My wife liked her omelet, but said she's had better while my Huevos was absolutely unpleasant. Very little flavor and wasn't very good, but I was comparing it against the same thing you can find at Hell's Kitchen - Minneapolis where you'll have one of the most amazing breakfasts ever. Fair or not, it sucked!
This was just the start our first and last visit when a man sitting at the breakfast style bar decided that he was going to dine out with a case of the sniffles and blow his nose every minute. He was throwing his tissue in a trash bin next to him which was attached to a cart with a bucket of water and a rag for wiping down tables and this is where it gets disgusting.
The servers simply placed the rag on the cart handle, instead on in the bucket of water (which didn't appear to have soap added) and when one of them walked by the cart, they bumped the rag into the snot filled trash bin. Another server walked by, noticed the rag was in the trash bin and simply took it out and placed it back on the cart handle.
If you're eating, stop! Snotman leaves the restaurant and yet another server stops, removes the dirty plates and silverware and proceeds to wash down snotmans spot with the rag I just described. I immediately stopped eating, asked for our bill and left! After writing to ownership, the response I received wasn't very professional and made no effort to correct, but I wasn't surprised.
Since this incident, we have refused to step foot in Suzie's and instead, we visit some of our favorite breakfast spots and FAR more superior than Suzie's - T&T Galley, Louisiana Cafe, Hell's Kitchen or stay at home and Chef Nick makes something awesome for his wife and child.
Rosemount needs quite a bit of work on their selection of restaurants, but the mayor and city council are clueless (sorry to get political). There are a couple of great spot to check out - T.O.P.S. (Best Philly's and pretty good zza), House of Curry (delicious coconut curry dishes) or Las Tortillas (awesome authentic tacos and darn tasty...
Read moreI have been going to Suzie's since it opened, I have even recommended people I know to this place. But today I experienced some of the worst customer service i have ever had! I ordered breakfast over the phone for pick up and the online price showed $6.49 so we ordered two of those which are the number 1s on the menu. When i showed up the total on the receipt was $7.99 each so I informed the lady at the window it was the wrong price, she yelled in the back" Susie the prices are wrong online" and then told me the prices have just gone up. I wasn't really happy about it but I just wanted my food and to go back home and eat so I paid and left. When I arrived home my meals were missing food. The meat was missing in both of our meals, so I called them back. When I called and told the person on the phone I heard her yell to someone "its the guy from the window, he didn't get his meat I don't have time I have a table that just came in." so someone else came on the phone and she said all I can do is make the meat for you and you can come back to pick it up. I said no I'm not driving back to get the meat I said I don't want to pay for it and I would like if refunded for the amount of the meat.(which I already paid more for it then listed online) she said she would charge me for a different meal that didn't include meat so i said ok well how much are those meals? Her reply was "um...ummm. I don't know I don't have time for this right now" so I said are you kidding? forget it I don't care ill just never be coming back to your restaurant again. I will say the food they have is good but the restaurant seems so unorganized. Everytime I have gone in the servers seem overwhelmed and stressed which I don't really understand how because yes the place can get busy but its not that big of a place. Over all its good breakfast food, but over priced and this is not a way to treat a customer. I understand mistakes happen but as a small business owner its your job to correct the mistakes you make not make them worse. I will not...
Read moreDue to the high reviews, my husband and I went there today to give it a try, but we were not as impressed as others seem to have been. The food was okay, not great, but that is likely just due to taste preferences. The eggs were overcooked, but they are being made on a flat top grill, so in fairness, it is pretty much impossible to make eggs any other way without a pan on an actual stove top. One of the pancakes was a little darker than I'd like, so the fork did not want to cut through it, but the second pancake was perfect: light and fluffy. The bacon and hashbrowns were good, but the hash was salty and greasy due to the fact that it is made with corned beef lunch meat and I did not care for the large slices of onion, but again, this speaks more to my personal taste preferences than to the quality of the cook. However, the place is a bit run down and dirty. There are hand written signs on the drive through board because it doesn't work and there is a hand written sign on the door regarding their hours, as the original hours have been scraped off the window. As soon as you walk in you smell the grease, as the grill/fryers must not be well ventilated (we both smelled of old grease when we left and immediately went home and washed our clothes and took another shower). The walls could use a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint. The chairs are all upholstered and filthy. The tables are washed, but the things in the middle did not appear to have been moved when it was washed, so there were crumbs on them. The floors needed a thorough sweeping and mopping in all the corners, etc., you get the idea. Bottom line: the service was great, the food was okay, but the atmosphere was less than desirable. This was not the place for us, so we won't be back, but if you don't mind greasy spoon diners, this could be a place you would enjoy, as it is a small, local business and the namesake does indeed work...
