My wife had told me about all of the great reviews Another Time had received, so we decided to stop in after going through the train museum across the street. As soon as we entered a young lady promptly greeted us and showed us to our table. A few minutes later a waitress came by, took our order for drinks. Drinks were promptly served and our lunch order was taken. Waiting for lunch to be served (hamburgers, onion rings) gave us a chance to look around. The employees ages ran from possibly late teens to early 30's. Behind the soda bar there seemed to always be 3 or 4 employees standing around in a small group chatting.
The decor is rustic. Many pictures on the wall of Rosenberg (thats the town the restaurant is in) dating back to 30's and 40's. There is a long soda bar that probably came with the building. From what I could see the restaurant was kept very clean, I did not notice dust on the pictures. Personally I enjoyed the atmosphere very much.
Lunch arrived. My wife and I had both ordered a cheeseburger. The burgers are 1/2 pound and can have lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, pickles and possibly one or two other items. Order all the way (we did) or pick and choose what you like to have on them. Additionally you may also have cheese, jalapeño, bacon (for a price). I had everything on my burger, my wife had the same without the bacon or jalapeño. She did ask if we could have the burger cooked rare or medium rare. The answer was quick. NO. We also ordered onion rings and a chocolate shake for my wife.
Our lunch arrived in reasonable time. There was more than enough food to eat. The fries that come with the burger we plentiful, a very good amount of onion rings, the burger piled high with all to extra's. The food did not sit on a pass waiting for someone to come by and get it as all of the food was hot.
Some friends of ours had told us to be sure and get the onion rings. They were just onion rings. the coating looked to be a standard four, egg, baking soda mix. Nothing special at all, no "wow" factor for me. Price was $4.00 if memory serves me correctly. The french fries were also uninspiring. They were just fries cooked in a deep fryer, nothing to get excited over. They came with the burgers.
The burgers had fresh veggies on them. The patty was dry without much flavor. Had it not been for the ketchup, mayo, mustard the burger would have been very dry. The cheese did not jump out at me but stayed kind of in the background. Overall it was just another poorly cooked burger on a bun, there are much better places to go for a burger. Since the cooks are unable to cook to temperature, other ingredients can be added to the burger patty to make it juicy without taking away from the burger 'flavor'. Another Time really needs to consider going this route.
We did not try the handmade cokes. A number of diners had ordered them but many were not finished. The drinks (Coke) looked syrupy which is to be expected since the restaurant touts that the drinks are made by hand with the soda jerks mixing the syrup with carbonation by hand. I found this to be a nice idea however technology does a better job with machines that do the mixing for you. Honestly if I desire a syrupy drink then I will just turn the carbonation down on the machine.
Prices are high. The shake was around $4.00, onion rings were $4.50. My burger was just under 10, the wifes was around $8.50. My iced tea was about $2.50. All total the bill was $31.00 not counting the tip. There are better burgers and rings to be had for much less. A special that day was adult grilled cheese for $7.00
We will not be returning unless some major changes...
Read moreWhen in Rosenberg, Texas, you will likely spend most of your time in the charming downtown area, visiting antique shops and museums. You are certain to get hungry and thirsty at some point and when you do, there is a place within walking distance, ready to appeal to your sense of nostalgia. It’s Another Time Soda Fountain and Café.
True to its name, Another Time Soda Fountain and Café transports you back in time, to an era when soda fountains and malt shops were commonplace. The atmosphere reflects this, with pictures and signage from days gone by, decorating the walls. The memories continue with the food and drink, with a special emphasis on soda fountain drinks, ice cream treats, shakes, and the like.
The food served here emphasizes sandwiches, burgers, and salads. On my last visit, I went with the patty melt and fries while my youngster choose the grilled cheese and fries. They did a fine job on the sandwiches, both of which were substantial in size, too. The accompanying fries weren’t too bad, but the sandwiches were the standouts.
Even if you’re not terribly hungry and don’t want a sandwich or burger, Another Time Soda Fountain and Café is worth visiting to get ice cream or a shake. The ice cream sundaes, banana split, and other items are easily worth your time. Oh, and for beverages, you can’t go wrong with a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade, limeade, or one of the fruity phosphate soft drinks, if that’s your pleasure.
It’s fun to step back in time when you dine. Another Time Soda Fountain and Café does exactly that, taking you back to a different era. The food and drink, and service, easily meet or exceed expectations and other than the possibility of having to wait for a table, this is a place you don’t want to miss in...
Read moremy wife and i went to this place for the first time today of course i looked at the menu days before and they dont have a regular food menu, all they have is fast food, like sandwiches and burgers, fries and drinks and some desserts and that is not old fashion if is not made the way it should be, i was expecting better quality better flavor better food presentation since they claim to be old fashion, but thats ok the problem is that the quality of the food is very poor and also cheap quality like from corner stores, and also expensive , i order the chicken strips with fries , fries were good but the strips no, no good at all, very cheap quality they were hard and breaded, the server asked me if i wanted ranch or gravy and i choose gravy at the end i saw 0.50 cents charge for gravy on the ticket, c'mon fifty cents is nothing but gravy or ranch should be included with this plate and dint even touch the gravy because it was thin like milk, mi wife order a tuna sandwich which was also very poor quality and not even toasted, so in general very confusing very, unprofessional and very low quality, i do not recommend this place if want you to see a full menu to choose from, but at the end is up to you, i did two stars which i think is more...
