Not sure why this place has such high ratings. Between my two friends and I we had 2 iced cappuccinos (one w/tapioca), one milk tea w/tapioca, an order of 6 Vietnamese egg rolls, and the B11(beef pho w/brisket), B12(beef pho w/meatballs), & B13(beef pho w/brisket & meatballs). The cappuccinos were by far the best thing that we ordered here. The milk tea tasted like sweetened, milk-flavored water. The egg rolls were decent, but the stuff that was brought to dip them in was pretty flavorless and didn't really do anything to improve the taste of the egg rolls.
And then there was the pho. Good lord... I've heard that this pho was "great," "amazing," "wonderful!" And I have to strongly disagree. If you've ever had good pho, you will know that this is NOT good pho. The regular beef tasted fine, and the brisket was actually pretty good. But the meatballs... Goodness they were so nasty. I don't know what they were made out of, but I have never in my life had a meatball with a texture like that. It was almost... I'm not even sure. The only thing I can liken the texture to would maybe be romaine lettuce hearts. Like soft and completely solid but crunchy at the same time. I don't know; I've literally never had something of that texture or taste before. It didn't even taste like meat. The side of bean sprouts, jalapenos, etc. was lacking in sprouts. For three people there was barely over a handful, honestly just a little more than I'd want for myself. (This seems a little like nit-picking but I wouldn't mention if it was the only thing I didn't like here.) And finally, the pho broth literally tasted like it was flavored with nothing but straight ginger. If other spices had been added you would have never known. After adding a bunch of Sriracha, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and fish sauce, my friends still refused to eat their pho because the ginger was so overpowering. I managed to get my pho to an edible level, but I shouldn't have had to add as much as I did.
But what REALLY made me mad was that there was a small bug, maybe the size of a stick pin head, that was floating on the top when the waitress set the pho down in front of me. Like, really?? You literally just served me a bug. And I'd like to say that it looked like a baby cockroach, but it was too small to say for sure. Disgusting.
Overall, nothing we had was impressive at all. If you're in the area and want pho, I would suggest checking out Stevan's Pho & Seafood. You'll get better service AND pho...
Read moreI have to say that admittedly we accidentally stumbled upon this place. My mother and I are quite adventurous when it comes to trying new foods. We are so glad that we stumbled upon this place. If you are unfamiliar with Vietnamese food, don't worry. The waiters are so kind and patient-it's like you get your own personal guide when you eat here. They are always so willing to take the time to educate you about their food, and culture. So in a sense you get a full experience from eating at Country Pho. Really to me that is what makes a dining experience excellent.
While I am willing to try new things, I don't always like them after I try them. In the case of Country Pho I have never ordered anything that I didn't like. If you are into eating fresh and healthy, this is the place for you. They cook with fresh ingredients, and each dish comes with a side of garden fresh herbs, and toppings (e.g. mint, cilantro, bean sprouts etc...). The foods flavor is never masked by excessive seasonings or fillers.
One more thing I can't forget to mention is the soup! If and when I have had a cold in the past I usually order the 'rare beef' soup. It comes with all of the previously mentioned garden fresh toppings. My favorite though is the fresh thin sliced jalapenos. I threw a few in my soup-let's just say the cold didn't last to much longer after that.
Despite the fact this restaurant is 30 miles from where I live, when I am home from work (I'm a pilot) I still find time to grab my mom and make the trip to one of my top (3) favorite local...
Read moreLet's start with the service, not great at all. The older gentleman did not talk to us at all not sure if there was a language barrier but he wasn't welcoming but that's fine as long as the food is good. So they bring us our appetizers spring rolls and summer rolls and the summer rolls were over cooked at the ends I didn't eat them my hubby did and he had to peel off the over cooked parts bc it was hard. So that's what the dark pieces on the plate are. But anyways they never came and refilled his tea. And the soup that I have been craving so bad was sooooooo very bland! No flavor. We got the combination pho. I had to pour in soooo much Saracha and hoisin sauce. I was soooo beyond disappointed 😞 I really was trying to get my craving for pho fulfilled and it was just so bad. We moved to wharton recently so we have to drive out to neighboring cities for pho so it was a total waste of time. We will definitely go else where for now on. If bland and no flavor is good for you...
