I have celiac disease and went here for brunch because they have a gluten free menu. If you don't have any food allergies, this is a nice breakfast restaurant. Clean, nice tables, food quality seemed decent enough. However, the gluten free menu has only about 5-6 items listed most of those being gluten free French toast, waffles, pancakes with only 1 savory option if I remember correctly. Gluten free pancakes and waffles tend to taste like crap no matter what you do, so I'm usually looking for items that are naturally gluten free like meat, rice, potatoes, eggs, etc. I explicitly told my server that I had a severe allergy and I have celiac disease, he said "ok". I probably should have asked more questions, but when I'm ordering in front of a group of people, it gets awkward when trying to make sure I'm going to be safe eating there. Sometimes I just give up trying to make sure I'm going to be safe and leave it up to luck. I ordered eggs, hash browns, sausage and GF French toast. When my order arrived at the table the server had stacked another plate on top of mine and some of the powdered sugar from another plate of regular French toast had fallen onto my eggs and hash browns. When the server set my plate down I realized that his gloves were dirty (greasy) with pieces of food stuck to them. He left greasy fingerprints on the inside edges of my plate of food. This would probably be gross anywhere you go to eat, but for me it induced anxiety because I get severely ill if my food is cross-contaminated. For example I can't use the same butter knife or toaster as someone who has used those items for buttering or toasting real bread. In restaurants, it is difficult to avoid cross-contact with other food, I get that. But this restaurant made no attempt to keep my food separate or change their gloves when preparing or serving my food. Additionally, I was given regular French toast instead of gluten free French toast. I noticed right away and he grabbed the plate of French toast off the table and said he would be back with the GF version. It seems there is no system in place for labeling orders with allergies or the kitchen messed up big time. I'd like to make it clear that celiac disease is an autoimmune issue. My body thinks it's being attacked and creates antibodies when I accidentally consume gluten. This is not a tummy ache or a fad diet. I get extremely ill. I ate the food against my better judgement and I've been sick for two days now. The GF French toast was inedible in my opinion. I took 2 bites and couldn't do it. Not really altogether the restaurants fault, there aren't a lot of good options for gluten free bread and I assume they are just purchasing something premade. Overall, I would just ask that they either train their employees on how to handle celiac orders, or simply say that the restaurant is not safe for celiacs or people with severe gluten allergies because they don't follow protocols for minimizing...
Read moreEvery time I go with my husband to the dentist, we would see this restaurant called @marios_earlytoast. The 1st time I saw it, I thought I wanna eat there! We had tried on one other occasion to go, but they're only open until 3pm, and it was around 4 when we rolled up. So for my birthday, hubby said why don't we go there? I was so excited, I had waited so long to go there! So after his appointment we had my mom meet us there.
I was so disappointed!! All our food was burnt & cold. Mom and I ordered the French toast combo. Hubby ordered a Crepe with sausage, bacon, 2 kinds of cheese, bell peppers and green onions & hashbrowns. When he bit into it and started eating, he said it had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. His Crepe was BLACK!! You can see the hashbrowns we got were beyond crispy. I asked the server as soon as he set our food down "Are our hashbrowns supposed to be black like that? They look burnt". He just kinda shrugged and said eh'. I said no, these are burnt they should be golden brown. Hubby offered to switch hashbrowns with me. I conceded and agreed. The waiter asked if we'd like another plate so we could trade hashbrowns. I said sure. Normally I would have sent them right back, but we were starving!! As we began to eat our food, it was luke warm at best. The eggs were cold. Our French toast was barely warm. The bacon was so thick and hard I couldn't eat it. Same thing with the hashbrowns. Everything was terrible. We left hungry, joking we should go to Burger King on the way home. We paid $68 for all 3 of us, for food we couldn't even eat!! The only good thing we got was my Shirley Temple, which was $4 btw. Lame. We won't be going back to the Roseville location. Our dental hygienist raved about the food, especially the French toast! But she goes to the Rocklin location, so we're gonna try that next time, and pray we have a better experience. What a letdown. Left bummed & hungry. As they say,a picture speaks a thousand words. You can see for yourself the kind of...
Read moreMy friend wanted us to go to Marios Early Toast about two months back and I was hesitant because I have my own breakfast spot near my house in Natomas, Sacramento.
I came up and went to this spot and the experience was amazing! First, great service. Delly was fun to talk to and quick with the drinks. The speed of food delivery was great, and the taste of the French toast was fantastic. That's my first visit. That time I did drink champagne and dropped a little more Apple Pay than I usually would, but it was good.
The second time I went to the location in Rocklin. The vibe was ok, i was alone that time (and being a solo traveler is important -I noticed as a single white male I was treated poorly -or different-especially if they're not pay much in tips, right? That's why Tips need to be gone). The food was good but had a weird vibe.
The third time I brought my parents. My Dad is the taster in the family and his reviews were high. We had a great meal, and the space was great. Hector was great at managing requests and friendly.
Today, Fiona was amazing. She took care of me, making sure I had what I needed. The food came out fast and was delicious. I checked in with Delly and he was on his hustle - good man. It was a wonderful experience. As I told Fiona, where I sat I could hear the different discussions amongst the staff. I was under the TV. I could hear the negatives too, and what made the experience realize how good their vibe was is that they had each other and their experiences to share to change perceptions to do good by their customer. Taking away the judgement of others is not easy and not doing so destroys companies. This was the root of their vibe and an impressive element of the business. For this reason -what is said on the back of their shirt is real: go...
