Warning DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! The quality has gone from excellent to bad to worst! It appears as the people who owned this place are not longer there. The people who opened this place were peruvians and they knew how to cook PERUVIAN FOOD. Now if you asked who is running this business , they do not want to tell you. When they first open this place was was A REALLY GOOD PLACE TO TRY AUTHENTIC PERUVIAN FOOD AND I , nor my family MINDED PAYING for PRICEY dishes BECAUSE we KNEW PERUVIAN FOOD TAKES A LOT OF LABOR HOURS TO COOK. THIS IS WHY PERUVIAN FOOD IS SO GOOD. Last night made me sad to see my niece ordering dishes and seeing the dissatisfaction on her face. It broke my heart. I was more interested in bringing her happiness than being unpolite by sending back dishes to continue getting them back on our table still tasting terrible.
Going there was a terrible mistake. My niece said that her mother never told her or WARN HER about the fact the quality has gone from bad to worst and this is why she picked this place to celebrate her birthday. My niece ordered CEBICHE and PAPA A LA HUACAINA AND I ORDERED PISCO SOUR . yuca rellena AND LOMO SALTADO. The bar attender forgot to add PISCO to this famous cocktail. But once my drink was fixed...it was good. My lomo saltado was NO great , was just okay...but I knew what to expect, do I did not complaint, the yuka rellena was terrible but it was 8.95. This dish was so tiny, it was a joke.I never complaint about this item either...I just knew I would not go back again. .. My niece food was so terrible on the other hand ! The waiter brought her the wrong CEBICHE that tastes so sour and so bitter you frown your face. When she asked me to try it to verify that something was wrong, I was in shock for the poor way it was done. The waiter appeared to be annoyed with my complains and he started to give me and who ever was unhappy with their food an attitude. I spent 70 dollars only on my food. We asked for separate checks...the waiter mixed our orders and took forever to get our checks straight. On my way out when I handed him 70 dollars where he still received his 20 percent tip, he ignored me. Spoke this morning with an Italian man named georgio, who apologized but never offered to take responsibility for this bad experience.
An update after I posted this review few hours: An update after few hours of posting this review. Georgio called me and stayed that he spoke to the owner and 50% of my bill and 100 % of my tips will be placed back in my credit card. Expressed my gratituted but also stated my concern for providing excellent PERUVIAN food to the community so my cousine heritage can be know accurately by the whole world as one of the best cousins...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this place. We went a few days ago, which also happened to land on their Independence day. Honestly we did not know that, we were just craving Peruvian food. We just moved from LA and we enjoyed Peruvian Food in Hollywood. This place is ok, not the best Peruvian Food we've had and we may not go back. I might be in the wrong because we are of course comparing it to many of the places in LA where we got our Peruvian food; but they were all consistent. Except this place. This is the first Peruvian food restaurant where we were only given One piece of bread per person. A party of 6 gets 6 pieces of bread, a party of 3 gets 3, you get the picture. We asked nicely if we could get more (since it's actually good) and they said that it was still not ready, we politely asked if we can have some as soon as it was available and they looked at us confused. We were the ones confused, if this Restaurant has a policy where you cannot give customers more bread simply say so, don't give us a blunt lie. Literally 2 mins after that happened, the table next to us with 3 got 3 pieces of bread. "Sorry we're limited to the amount of bread a table can get" is so much better than lying. Another thing that happened was that they were out of many dishes, many of us ended up getting the traditional Lomo/Pollo Saltado. Because the Lamb was out. Bummer, we were thinking of trying that particular plate since Yelp reviews mentioned it was the tastiest. Another huge thing was the pricing. It was wayyy overpriced. I'm still shocked 6 people racked up a bill to $180. That's almost $30 per plate and the serving amount wasn't that great either, we were mislead by the pricing Yelp has for this place. At other LA based restaurants it was considerably cheaper and the servings were much more. I am aware I am comparing this restaurant to many in LA, but like I said before they all seemed consistent. They had several Salsa options (this place did not), we we're given bread without asking (we already know what happens here), and we were told beforehand what was out in the Menu (here we were just given menus and when it came to ordering we were told they were out). All the other places tell their customers what they no longer serve before they leave them to decide on their meal. This is the reason 4 got the Lomo/Pollo Saltado. We had no time to see the menu since the lady taking our ordered seemed bother that we were taking her time. I'm giving this a 2.5 rating, but since there is no in-between it gets a 2. I honestly don't want to give a 3 on...
Read moreOverall The Experience here was good regarding the food.
The one thing that is a little deceiving about this restaurant is that it is in a shopping center and the outside does not truly reflect how fun the atmosphere is inside the restaurant. As you walk in you are greeted by a cute llama and colorful decorations representing the Peruvian culture. The space itself is quite large and would be really great for bigger parties or even to rent out if you needed that. As we were walking to our tables it seems like they may even have a buffet style set up for meals.
The drink selection is limited to wine based concoctions or beers and on the other side is non-alcoholic beverages. Two of us tried the Peruvian beers that were on the menu and liked them both. They were quite light and refreshing. The drink that we all agreed was well done was the sangria. It was not overly sweet and the fruit really came through when you drank it.
The pictures I added shows what we ate there was two dishes that were Peruvian style fried rice dishes one was with beef the other was with shrimp both very tasty especially with a sauce that came with it. The other two dishes one was the lamb shank and the other was the custom dish from Peru that was a meat base dish. Overall the flavors on both of those were really well done and nothing needed to be added to them. Huge shout out to the side dish of the Jasmine rice and beans that were on the plate both were phenomenal on their own as well. The one critique is definitely around the meat dish that had the fries on it there were tons of fries and chopped onions in it. Again the fries were well done the call out is that for the price there was not a ton of meat on the plate. All the grilled vegetables that accompanied the meat made it look bigger.
The other piece of it was definitely around service. The server overall was nice and would bring us things as we requested them. There were a few things he forgot to bring and we had to remind him once or twice more. For me it was definitely after we had requested water there was not a check back in to see if we needed refills on it again we had to ask him to refill the water class is a couple of times. And also considering that the space did not have a lot of people at the time we went, I would have expected a little bit more attentive service.
Again overall the food was well seasoned very tasty, and the main call out to definitely be the attentiveness of the service and Portion sizes...
