I have become a weekly regular at this locally owned establishment over the past year for a few reasons. (1) The hospitality which each of the employees share with their customers is remarkable. I have always felt honored as they eagerly seek to know how my day is going, and how they might make my day better with their delicious products. Ever since my first visit they have been helpful with suggestions, sought to make sure I am welcomed well, and excelled at caring for those who spend time in their building. (2) Their food is DELICIOUS. They make all their bagels and cream cheese from scratch in store the day you buy your product, and you can tell. With their made-to-order style of service, you can watch your food being handcrafted before your eyes, and it's a simple joy to watch! They also have a great variety of both house specialty sandwiches and build-your-own options. They also use Boar's Head meats and cheeses; which are some of the highest quality you can get (although I'm biased because the coffee shop I work at also proudly uses their products). 3. The atmosphere is so wonderful! They have a top-notch Audio Technica record player going all day long, and they never fail to have music which makes you feel relaxed, but at the same time will most likely have you tapping your foot to the beat. I cannot say enough good things about this neighborhood hub! I'm thankful to also work at the church down the street so I can have easy access to this establishment regularly, but even if I lived across town I would certainly make a trip with no...
Read moreWhen I saw that multiple coffee shops and delis sell St. Paul Bagelry bagels, I had to go to the source for what must be the best bagels in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Upon hearing that story, the manager/owner was quick to tell me about his family starting the business, the NY-style to authentic NY bagel comparison, his trip to New York to sample bagels there, and what his shop is known for — their large wholesale business; good bagel sandwiches; great music albums played on a turntable. I made the mistake of stopping near their 2 pm closing time, so the pickings were slim. Out of everything bagels, I went for my #2 choice when available, a pumpernickel bagel with butter. A young guy struggled to get enough cold, hard butter to spread across the bagel I asked to be toasted because it was clear it was made that morning. The bagel was on the thin side and the butter wasn’t plentiful, but it was tasty. I regret not at least getting a bagel sandwich of some kind on a still available sesame bagel. It probably would have been a better representation of their work. The turntable and albums are legit, and they offer “pop tarts” from another bakery and other goodies as well. I didn’t do St. Paul Bagelry justice on this visit. If I’m back in the area,...
Read moreReally aggravated with this service model, or whatever one would call it. I ordered online and one item was an “egg and cheese” sandwich. There were no options for what kind of meat so I figured there was just a default meat and I’d be fine with that.
I get to the restaurant and there’s a huge line. I go to the pickup area and wait. When the time reaches 10 minutes past the time the website said it would be ready, I ask about the order. Two people ignore me. I ask again. “There’s no order here by that name.” Then someone else pipes up and says “Oh, are you (name)?” and then proceeds to explain that they hadn’t started my order because they didn’t know what kind of meat I wanted and, also, they’re out of some kind of cheese. 1) the website did not give me any options for meat, 2) I did not order cheese, I am lactose-intolerant, 3) why the heck wouldn’t you call me and ask whatever you needed to ask to start working on my $40 bagel order that I’ve already tipped you for? I am...
