5+ year customer, local to the area. This review reflects some of the things that I've noticed over my time eating here.
So that everyone understands the way that I rated:
1 - poor 2 - needs improvement 3 - average (meets expectations) 4 - good (have to do something beyond average) 5 - exceptional (have to go above and beyond good)
I have had a mix of good and bad interactions with waitstaff at this restaurant. The majority (roughly 70% to 80%) of them are good experiences. However, I have been ignored at the counter here before. One gripe, please deliver all items ordered to the table at one time. People want to eat all at once, not in pieces. I know that I want all my food at one time, and not parts of it delivered before other parts (e.g. main course waiting on toast but still delivered. BAD). I look for this and judge accordingly. I will never complain about it directly. Happens here all the time.
In terms of food, The quality is about what one would expect from a diner, which is exactly what this place is. It isn't the best and it's not the worst. Overall, it's decent food. They have some highlights, their eggs benedict is pretty good. The hash browns (sliced potatoes and not grated potatoes) are pretty bland and could use seasoning. Hashbrowns are an upcharge. Portions of things vary from item to item, some too much, others too small.
Pricing is something to talk about. Yes, the diner is transparent with their pricing. Yes, food costs are increasing. Yes, other external factors drive price increases. We all get that. However, the pricing FEELS like it is on the high side of reasonable, if not maybe a notch just outside reasonable on some items. Other restaurants, like Palmer's Inn in St. Clair Shores, or Andary's Grill in Eastpointe, offer better (to the customer) pricing on similar items, with similar quality and portion sizes.
Wait times on busy days are atrocious. To be honest, I've walked out several times because of the wait. Other times, I've looked at the parking lot and just drove by. I don't like to get food to go. I don't like styrofoam clamshells. Recently, I was going to come in and sit at the counter, and none of the counter seats that were open were cleaned, so I stood there for several minutes (more than five) waiting for one of them to be cleaned so that I could sit, and it never happened. I left. I went elsewhere with no wait. There needs to be some work on table and counter turnaround times.
Closing times need to be more clearly laid out. If the kitchen closes at a different time than the end of the business day as stipulated on the hours of operation posted at the door, that needs to be very clearly advertised to the customer, in writing on the door by the hours posted, and stringently followed so that the customer knows and understands this. It shouldn't vary, unless under specific circumstances like a holiday or family emergency or some other specific and understandable reason.
In terms of atmosphere, the place is a bit kitschy. I like the decor overall and the somewhat irreverent nature of some of it. Roosters, chickens, and eggs everywhere are a thing here. It works.
I am sure that others will have differing opinions on what I've said here. That's good with me. I also think that the business owner may respond here and have some words for whatever I've said. Great! Want a better rating? Get better.
I do still occasionally go here from time to time. I do like the food. But when it is busy, I strongly recommend avoiding it. The wait is too long and the seating is too sparse. There are other places nearby with no wait that are the same quality, and cheaper. Try it out or not, your call.
Overall, I'd give it a 2.5/5. However, Google doesn't let us do decimal ratings, and I don't round up, so 2/5 is what you get.
I had a longer, more nuanced and detailed version of this review (which had more positives), but Google made me cut it down. Here’s what’s left. Character...
Read moreUpdate in response to your response: There was zero communication. My family came in a pack every Sunday, probably took a good portion of the left side (Tipped and were always respectful by the way). The waitresses were always really good at taking everyone's order and being informative (even working well with the children). My children however were wanting cheeseburgers this time (typically restaurants have that option available for littles so we never questioned that it wouldn't be that on the kids menu, with all respect). A waitress with dirty-blonde/curly hair, who didn't regular us (nor was very good at caring for our group, sorry), never specified that there were no children's burgers or that any accommodation could be made. I literally wasn't made aware until I received the bill and realized I had to pay Adult prices on drinks and meals for 3 small children. They didn't even know what to say to me at the counter. I just gave up lol. I worked in a restaurant and I had to make people happy, even the most ridiculous and rude ones. I appreciate the time we had, the food was great, I just can't justify spending that much. It wasn't steak dinner, it was just Breakfast for 2 Adults and 3 Children's meals. I still had to tip on top of that as well. I understand when my family came in we were probably a lot of people to take care of, but we paid for everything, weren't rowdy, and tried to make it as fast as possible. I definitely got vibes that servers were sick of us because before the final Sunday the service was declining regardless. That was just the final straw. Thanks for reading though. I'm not trying to cause any trouble, just putting my...
Read moreWe order a to go meal last month and it was very delicious. Tired to order today and was place on hold for 5 mins listening to background conversation. I hung up, called back and the lady that picked up the phone says “can you please hold?” and proceeded to place me on another 3-5 min hold again, listening to the background conversation. I finally call back for a third time and wait for her to pick up and again she said “can you please hold?” I say no and she still sets me down to listen to more back ground noise. Apparently they are “short staffed” like the rest of the world.
Update: 2/27/24 I’m shocked at how defensive the “owner” gets with their responses to peoples bad reviews. They hold no accountability to themselves or the Business. The blame is all put on the customer with a less than genuine “I'm sorry” to the customer. Talking down to people/degrading people regardless of their review is not the way things should be handled.
Second update. 2/27/24
Again you are placing blame on me instead of just apologizing (with sincerity). I’m not trying to terrorize anyone. I asking for accountability. But again you continue to talk down to me. I shared the reviews so people see how terrible you are to people. Instead of accepting fault...
