This was one of our most pleasant dining experiences in Pittsburgh recently. We stumbled on it when we were looking for a place to eat near my mother's nursing home and it had good reviews. There's good reason for them. It is an unassuming small restaurant but has comfortable booths and it is clean and well maintained. There were only two staff that I saw, but the young man who waited on us was very attentive and polite and very helpful with our choices. The only disappointment was that they were sold out of dolma, their vegetarian grape leaves which my daughter really wanted. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. My mother had a tawa chicken salad with beautifully spiced and grilled chicken breast tenders atop lettuce, green pepper, tomato and cucumber salad. She really enjoyed it. I had the mixed meat platter with rice which was flavorful and delicious and had slivered almonds in it. I was a bit surprised that the lamb kabob wasn't in chunks, but it was despite being ground, not my favorite, it was delicious and perfectly spiced. My husband had the chicken shawarma plate which was delicate tiny thin slices of chicken beautifully distributed across a mound of steaming flavored rice. Delicious. And with the choice of dipping sauce on the side I chose garlic and it was so good and creamy and not overpowering. All of the portions were very generous and I really appreciated them. They also made fresh pita chips which were wonderful and I wish that I had bought some for the road because my daughter adored them. For me the stars of the show were actually the vegetarian ones however. We really enjoyed the creamy lentil soup with sprinkles of parsley on top, and the fried cauliflower, which we asked for a non-spicy variety. My daughter is a vegetarian and she is somewhat particular about her food, and she ate every every last bit of a cauliflower and a lot of the soup. We also had baklava witch despite being served cold ( I love to have warm baklava with drizzled honey) perfection in its flavors. Very delicately balanced with distinct rose and honey flavor, Not sticky or sweet. I hope the next time we make it there we come at a time when the baklava is warm and they have some fresh mint tea and grape leaves. We look forward to going...
Read moreMessed up multiple orders. Gave very little Pita for baba ganoush and hummus. Extremely slow. Orders weren't ready until 12:30 after being given a projection of 11:30 to 11:45 and there were no other customers or orders during that time. Charged for multiple items not actually ordered. Had called ahead the day before to make sure they could accommodate. The young man working seemed as if he had never been in a kitchen before. DO NOT rely on them to accommodate large individual orders or have food ready when you need it. Nice people and good food but NOT appropriate for businesses or large orders unless I just caught them on their worst day.
To reply to your response, I spoke with Mez a day prior and provided an estimate of the number of people I would be ordering for and was told you would be able to accommodate our needs and overestimated the number of people that would have orders as 14 - 16. I was told by Mez the order would take approximately 30 minutes. I called you early at 10:30 and provided you with the order by 10:45 and was told then to expect the order to take 45 minutes after providing the exact orders. This would have put the order being ready at 11:45 at the latest, assuming you didn't start making any items until your 11 AM start. You said the order was complete around 11:55 however, the order was not in fact complete. There were multiple missing items as well as incorrect salads and sides. You DID charge me for items I hadn't ordered but I caught the fact that you had a ticket with 4 items I had never ordered and you had to void my order and re-ring everything as a result. After correcting the various errors and waiting for food to be remade, I wasn't able to deliver lunch to my office until after 12:30. A 45 minute delay is a serious delay and I mean no disrespect to you or your business but I want to let other businesses know what happened so others don't find themselves in a situation like I found myself. If you want I can post a copy of the voided ticket as proof you had charged me for items I...
Read moreI'm so pleased to have this great new place right in my neighborhood. We had lunch here today after hearing great things about the food and the owners. Got the shish tawook (a pita roll-up filled with savory roasted chicken, tomatoes, pickle slices and marinated turnip strips) and it was terrific, also got a side order of the roasted cauliflower appetizer, also delicious. The sauces and spices are unique and really tasty. They are still getting set up so take out is the only option now, though they do have a tiny counter a couple of people could sit at. But it's well worth calling in an order and picking it up. Everything is made fresh when you order it. I would give Hanadi's 10 stars if I could! Can't wait to try their pizzas next. I will definitely be a regular customer. Best Mediterranean food I have had in Pittsburgh, and I have tried most of them.
Update May 2021. Still love Hanadi's food and continued to support this great neighborhood place by picking up takeout during the pandemic shut downs. Had it again last Saturday and, if anything, it is even tastier than when they opened! Always top quality, fresh and healthy. I keep meaning to try their highly rated pizza but I love the traditional Middle Eastern dishes so much I keep craving them!
2024 update: I was sad when Hanadi's closed their small take out shop 5 minutes from my house in Forest Hills 2 years ago, but now that I know where their other location on McKnight Road is, I will be able to get their great food again when I am up that way (I have friends in the North Hills and am in the area often.) Still the tastiest Middle Eastern food in Pittsburgh, and I have eaten at all of the other places that serve this kind of food. Nice...
